Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for a long time. My lude has been sitting for about four years now. It's now time for a new engine...but it's next to impossible to find one were I live, and I'm really concerned about ordering one from the internet. I need an h23, and my question is, are there any places that any of you have ordered from and were really satisfied with what you got. As in, you didn't get ripped off? My car has been sitting way too long, and the last thing I want is for it to sit longer because I bought a peice of junk engine. I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
I got my JDM H22A from Noyan USA in Virginia Beach, VA. Roughly 1300 shipped to a dist center where I picked it up. No problems with the engine at all. 210-215 psi across the board (although I freshened the head before I installed it). It's got about 20k on it since I dropped it in.
edit: the oil pan was dented in shipping, the exhaust manifold cover was dented, and a couple pullies were chipped. All things I sourced from my dead engine. Although I never collected, they offered to send good parts to make up for the damage.
There is really no good reason to buy an H23 motor. They have more rod bearing problems than an H22. There are a few very reliable JDM importers online, some searching will tell you which ones.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll look around some more. I just keep seeing so many places that have engines for 500-700 dollars as opposed to 1000....but, I guess you get what you pay for.
Artifex, why do you say there is no good reason to buy an h23? I've always loved that motor. It's been in both preludes I've owned, and I never had a bit of problems out of it until some dumbass compl;etely destroyed it in the process of trying to fix my timing belt/do head work. However, it is a rod bearing that is my problem right now. I just con't see doing the extra work and paying a lot more for an engine with only 30 more hp...you know?
I just swapped in my JDM H22A Euro-R into my prelude from H-Motors. Their motors are in top quality. The shop guys who swapped it in thought that I put new cams on the motor because they had such little ware on them. The motor probably had close to 10,000 miles on it. Looked like it came out of the crate!

H-Motors all the way!
Wow, that's good to hear.
To the OP: you will need an H22 ECU (a p13 actually) to run the motor, in addition to wiring up VTEC. If power isn't that important, I'm sure you can find an H23 for cheaper somewhere. However, importers don't carry that motor, since nobody wants one, so I imagine you will have a harder time finding that than a good H22.

I've only heard of people using the H23 block combined with the H22 head. I wouldnt suggest spending the money on an engine that is less desirable when you can just piece together something better!

Unless I misunderstood him, the H23 doesn't run. He needs a new bottom end.

I know this thread is a few months old, but as an update......I ended up getting an h23 from JDMTIGER in Canada. I honestly hadn't heard any good or bad things about them, but they had a good warranty, so I went with them. I ordered the engine over the holidays, so shipping ended up taking a lot longer than I expected. However, onve it got here, it was clean, safely shipped, and everything was in working order. So again, I don't know enough about the place to fully recommend them, but to someone looking for an engine....they are a definate option. Here are a couple crappy, rainy pictures from a few days after the swap...I'll get some better ones up soon.
