I've done several searches but didn't find anything. So I'm back to the same question...how do you remove the transmission without using a car lift? Can it be done with just jack stands? Basically I'm going from underneath and I'm not sure if there's enough clearance. I will be using an engine hoist to aid me in dropping the tranny as they are quite a bit heavy.
Yes. Just get the car up in the air as far as you can, you will need enough room so that the height of the tranny can clear the lowest point under the front of the car and the ground (about 18" from the ground to the bottom of the chassis). You might need to borrow a high-lift jack and high-lift stands to get it that high.
yea, a high jack is needed, but if you dont have it you can be creative and finds things to put inbetween the car and the jack to raise it up some more. Just be very carefull. It took forever just to get mine up on sat. I just used my jack under the tranny to slowly lower it, then i put the pieces of wood used to help raise my car under the tranny so it had a soft place to lower on after it came off the jack. not too bad. Then its easy to drag it out from under the car.

i've always used some high lift jack stands to get the car well in the air...
as for removing the tranny. Good old elbow grease.
Just lay under the car, and just lay that biotch on your chest, and slide yourself out.
If you don't feel confertable doing that, slide the tranny away from the block enough to get your hand in there, and you should be able to slide it off, and lower it down w/o a prob.

My integras trans will be worn out sometime in 03 im sure.. I'd like to be involved in replacing it.
not a prob dan.. easy stuff really.
it really just comes down to this:
take off wheels, drain fluid, take off axles, take off intermediate shaft, take out starter, take off intake, undo shiftlinkage, undo speed sensor, undo back up light, undo slave cylinder, undo inspection plate, then start to loosen up bellhousing bolts, back off tranny, lower...
install is reverse of removal.

although, my garage isn't good for doing tranny work really, it is cluttered and crap. My friends garage is where we do all the clutch/tranny work at. He has a nice 3 car garage that is basically all his at his parents house, so there is plenty of room to werk... it really isn't bad..
done 2 civic si clutches... both under 4 hrs each w/ 3 people on it.
also done an isuzu rodeo clutch, and my type sh clutch. but you don't need a clutch, so it will go even faster.

well i was gonna put in my clutch today but i was reading the helms directions n it says something about hoisting up the engine. did i read it wrong or do i really gotta hold the engine up with something to remove the tranny? figured that would be kinda hard if the car was on the lift
Hey Ben if you want we can work on your car together after I put mine in. Although I'm not very much familiar with 5th gens but it shouldn't be that bad...or maybe...hehe you have ATTS right? That could be a little bit complicated.
I need to do mine too...can I join this tranny removal and install thing going on....but i need to install a new clutch, new flywheel, new LSD, and swap in a 4th gen VTEC tranny......Anyone wanna help...southern cali here.

it should be fine... your only gonna have the tranny out of the car for maybe an hour at most. Now, if you let the car sit over night like that, you want to support the engine.
