Transmission assembly question.

I got the parts that i needed to re-assembly the tranny. I put it together last night but i could not get the snap ring to settle into the groove. I even ran down some of the screws to promot the gearcase to settle. I got nothing. Are there any secrets to get this to work?
I REALLY need to get this together ASAP! Theres a auto-x the 19th and i need to break in my new clutch before then!

Thanks
Ken

How far is the snap ring from the groove?

If it's just a tiny bit off, then screw in the majority of the housing screws (don't tighten), turn the entire assembly upside down, and knock it against the ground or something LIGHTLY. The snap ring should meet the groove that way.

I am also worried that you said you tightened some of the screws. I had a friend who cracked 2 casings doing that. But if the groove is not far from the snap ring, everything else in the case should be settled in the right position.

Ohhh its only like .015-.030" from the groove. Very close just not seated... and i could not put it in the car like that... So i took it back apart last night.

Tap it huh. That would prolly work. I tried to "pry" it up last night... but that got me no where fast.

Thanks NiMaDiFoB

Turn the tranny upside down (at least from the way it sits on a bench), that'll cause the countershaft to slide the other direction, and the bearing will engage the snap ring.
