USDM 5spd is the M2Y4.

longer 5th gear? most of the h22 trannies have the same ratios except the Accord euro tranny.

someone was telling me you could swap a F22 5th gear into our trannies and they would fit. the F22 5th is a big overdrive gear compared to our 5th gear.

If you want a tranny that was designed for the H22 then the best one out there for your needs is the M2B4. It has shorter 1,2,3 (same as 4th gen) and and taller 5th gear. (.787 i think) So it will help with highway crusing. And you get a LSD with the tranny.
If you do swap in the tranny i would REALLY reccomed changing the 5th gear shift for and possibally the syncros with the tranny is out. I got mine and it is pretty tepermental(sp) i have been using Syncromesh as a baind-aid.

M2Y4 is the SH tranny
M2U4 is the 5spd base tranny for 5th gens.
M2F4 is 4th gen h22

so it sounds like I need to keep my eyes out for a M2B4 tranny..... now where the hell can I find one of those?

sorry to jack your thread...

if I am able to find one, would I be able to use replacement synchros for the M2U4 tranny? or would I need to get the parts from japan?

and would a M2F4 bould up to my 5th gen without a prob?

You can use some parts from m2f4. The syncros for 1-3 can be used. You can use a 5th gen syncro for 4th gear, and you need to order parts from www.gearspeed.com to get the 5th gear parts. They can also get all the parts that you will need for the rebuild. A tranny rebuild will run arround $600-$800 now there is no way to know if the tranny is "fine" or trashed before you get it. If anything change out the 5th gear syncro and synco sleeve. I think that will run you $200 for the parts.

In order to get a M2B4 tranny it will need to be imported from Japan. If you call up any of the motor importers they can get or they have them in stock.
Mine came from http://hmotorsonline.com/
Yes a M2F4 will defently bolt up.

I plan to go the SS to 5spd route in the spring and I'm also in a delima about tranny's.

I have a chance to buy all the swap parts, including the tranny from a wrecked 01SE with about 100XXX km's. No idea if the tranny is good since the car is undriveable. The price for the entire package (everything I would ever need for the swap) would run me around $1800 CND, which seems expensive to begine with.

With that said, I would really like to have the gear ratios of the M2F4 tranny but would be it be a complete waste of time & money to change the M2Y4 tranny into a M2F4 tranny?

Whatever tranny I do end up getting, I would probably get the tranny serviced/rebuilt, replace the synchros for sure, and get a Quaife LSD installed before swapping the tranny in.

So, would changing the M2Y4 to a M2F4 be that much more expensive? Would I be better off just getting the M2F4 tranny to begin with, doing a rebuild, and installing the LSD?

I just picked up a M2B4 w/ LSD from a local shop in paterson for $550....I believe they ship and they do paypal....might have to do some convincing to make them separate the motor from the trans 1888-886-8898. They dont realy know much about prelude trans codes, so your better off asking for a lude trans w/ LSD. I had the liberty of going down there and looking at the trannys......

I really don't want the M2B4 w/ LSD. I'd rather buy the M2F4 or M2Y4 and install the Quaife...

So, back to my original question, what should I do?
