I need to do this soon myself. I have an impact driver but what size bit should I use - 1, 2, or 3?

No, mine have an 8mm head with a skrewdriver end. The cap is a 10mm isnt it? I dont know whats up with you guys but mine does, well maby not the new one bacause I didnt install it but the last 3 did have it. I might have reused the skrew tho, i dont really remember. Its been over 1 year since i changed it myself. I 100% guarentee it.

hmm
well just one tip
snap on acr bits
they are bits with lil grooves in them which prevent it from slipping when you turn
ive put them on screws stuck on so tight they have broken the bit but still didnt strip......they are about 2 buckes each

interesting

yea mine was only a screw, no hex head, otherwise i would've used it. Only the cap itself had the hex head and screws.

And i'm sure because I ordered an extra replacement screw before doing this, and I've seen it on other 5gs. Maybe it's diff for 4g h22s?

I wouldn't suggest using an impact driver that you use with a hammer... run the possiblity of hitting it too hard and breaking your distributor.
An impact drill may work, provided you have the proper sized bit.

I think the biggest problem is that most folks just grab the first phillips head screwdriver they find and try to crank on it. (Just as Ludatic said in his first post, with the "cliff note" )

I did that this morning, almost stripped it, found the correct size, and it came out without any problem.
