2. I'm not sure if the timing belt was ever changed - I bought it with 76,000 miles. I have no way of contacting the previous owner.
2a. I've been told that I can give Honda my VIN to see if a dealer ever replaced the belt.
3. I don't know where the belt is located and what it looks like. I'd like your assistance in finding it so I can see if it is worn. I can then take some pictures and post them up here for your opinions.
Any help on this matter is appreciated, since I am now afraid to even start the car until I can determine how bad of shape the belt is in.

Good luck, timing belt is a reasonably big job and a visual inspection won't necessarily tell you much. Since our motors are interference engines, if that belt breaks you can say goodbye to your valvetrain and maybe some pistons.

if I were you I'd have it replaced. like Grover said, visual inspection isnt the best way to tell. and if it does snap you will have a much bigger problem on your hands.
if there is any doubt that it has been replaced, go get it done ASAP. its not cheap to have it done, but if you don't know where it is, I would advise against doing it your self. it is a big job.

Yeah, I'm not confident enough in my mechanical abilities to attempt a DIY job. I'm going to do the smart thing and not drive the vehicle until I can have the belt replaced in about a month or so.
Oh well, at least I'll stay under the mythical six figure mile marker a little while longer.

Yes it is time to replace the belt. And if you are not confident in changing it yourself then take it to Honda and have them do it.
I would still drive the car. I MIGHT not bounce it off the rev limiter for days on end. But i think that you are MORE than safe. There are "safty factors" built into EVERYTHING. Basically if they tell you that it will las 100k and there safty factory is 1.5 then it will last 150k.
Now my old 1986 Accord never had the belt changed, the car had 185k when i got rid of it. Granted i drove it like a granny. it was no race car and i drove it that way.
Be smart take the car to the dealer when you have the time and $.

1) Make sure they REPLACE your water pump, not just inspect it
2) Make sure they REPLACE the autotensioner, or if your shop is cool get a manual tensioner installed from an earlier model (way more reliable and less noisy)...expect to pay more for this service, most places won't replace the tensioner
Also make sure they fill your radiator when they're done...mine was half empty due to a mistake by the mechanic.
If you want to be super careful ask for a list of parts they'll replace in their standard service, and check around the forum to see what others do. The critical part is to ask for the tensioner replacement

Thanks man. I don't have the tools where I live to get access to it, unfortunately.
On an unrelated note I found a nice pair of wire cutters wedged back behind the valve cover.
God knows how long those have been in there. grr..
no one seemed to be shocked by this........... did anyone read that he had a pair of WIRE cutters wedged behind the VC ??? Was it like pinched on anything? or was it just sitting there nicely lol. who the hell owned your car before you! dang, i'd seriously ask him what the hell that's about
