throw out bearing is dying/dead

My clutch has been acting funny lately... whenever I get to the catch point the car vibrates more. and the actual pedal itself will vibrate if i'm in neutral and i bring the pedal to the catch point.

someone suggested that this is my throw out bearing gone bad? is this right?

how long will my car last? right now i have 0 money and I've been job hunting so I dont know if it'll die on my first day of work or anything like that

I'm not sure if it clearly indicates throwout bearing failure, but that would be a key suspect in this case. If it fails, your car will be out of commission until you replace it. Failure could do anything from simply preventing shifting through damaging the slave cylinder to really screwing up your drivetrain (the last is least likely unless you do something dumb like race :P ). The way it's behaving now, I wouldn't want to drive it around anyway. Maybe time to get help from the parental units?

One other indicator is a squeaking noise when in neutral. If you can hear it when it's just idling in neutral but goes away as soon as you touch the clutch on engage a gear, it's another good sign its that bearing. I had this problem for almost a year. At first the sound was pretty small but over time got worse. Then over the last month or two I had the same symptoms as you - a lot of vibration when first engaging the gear. This was enough to make me replace my clutch and bearing as all that vibration can't be a good thing. The bad news is that you might as well put in a new clutch at the same time because the labor costs alone are probably going to be around $300. Ironically the bearing itself costs next to nothing. As Spite says, if you just wait for the bearing to seize, you will be stranded and won't be able to get it in/out of gear. So start saving!!
