Hey guys I currently drive a 98 SH and I love the car but its been a money pit since I purchased it. I have done countless repairs and yet more and more things keep popping up. For instance I have the dreaded misfire problem that wont go away, a suspension that no matter what adjustments i make or parts i add seems to eat through tires like a monster, and elusive oil leaks that just wont seal. Ive tried almost everything and my idle is still rough and my CEL wont go off. Im in college and can no longer afford to keep the car. Im shopping around for a used car in the $4000 range and was wondering what i could get that would be at least semi sporty and reliable...i hate to leave the prelude scene after doing soooo much work on this car but hopefully ill be back with a lude sometime soon. any advice on a good swap for a daily would be greatly appreciated
itd probably be smart of me to look into toyota as theyre known for being super reliable but ive never been a toyota fan. in my current situation tho ill definately look into it man. i did some reading and i dont wanna end up in the same position im in now but i did find a tiburon for sale in my area right in my price range, its an 04 with around 100xxx on it. ive heard their main problem is with the clutch but the guy told me he bought an aftermarket clutch six months ago. any advice on whether this would be a car to consider? i like the idea of a V6 six speed but im afraid of buying another used car thats gonna start needing repairs the second i get it.
Hate it when $h!7 like that happens as far as I have heard/seen those tiburons even taken care of properly are not the most reliable by any means. My buddy owns a 2003 and has had more problems in 6 months with his in the year that i have owned my prelude, and i have had the oil leaks misfires gas coming out of my muffler clutch and everything but i fix it all my self so cheap. Back to the point he does not hot rod hardly ever (since he had a wreck in a dif car) and i have never seen him race but he always has problems with that pos and takes it to the dealership to get it fixed and either its a week later or a month later hes back. Long story short he bought the car for 5.5k 6-7 months ago and has spent atleast 3.5k on repairs
pontiac sunfires are cheap and decently reliable unless someone fugs with them, and they are ugly so no panty droping =(, but yes sadly a corolla would probably beat these in reliability.
You could probably find a decent d16 del sol for that price. They are slow, but still more fun than going the corolla/cavalier/escort/neon econo-box route. I almost bought one a couple years ago.
doesnt really matter which direction you go bro no matter what car you buy thats used your gonna run into its own problems. take a step back n look at this whole thing again, i think your just upset that these problems keep comin up, which is understandable, but you go to sleep n wake up feelin nothin like you did the day before....im in college too the **** is rough but like i said every used car will have its problems
I bought caprice classic as a winter beater car for $100. They are hardcore. It even had locked multi-spoke hubcaps. It finally died when all the oil came out the bottom while driving. I drove it about 8miles without oil before the engine finally seized up and blew. That a hardcore car right there.
You know "most" people who sell their ludes end up wanting it back lol =) i mean hell i sold my 3rd gen and i would love to have that car back even though i sold it to get extra money for my 5th gen... point is i sold a lude =(

^x2 on the Del Sol. I sold my 95 Del Sol SI to buy my SH Lude and the Sol was super fun and reliable - d16 was bulletproof too. 180k and I pushed that car hard . . . not to mention great fuel economy on 87 grade fuel . . . still lots of great aftermarket goodies available too if you take a liking to the car . . . one of my favs was my blue tinted glass targa top . . .

hey guys thanks for all the great advice ive taken everything into consideration and i actually did sell my lude tonight. i hated to see it go but honestly it had more problems than i could afford to fix so hopefully its new owner will take good care of it..im in the market to buy a new car and i did look at a tiburon today, i know most of yall say they have alot of problems but this one looked nice and from everything ive read ppl either love them or hate them soo im not sure what to do yet but im just not ready to sit myself into a corolla lol
BUY PRELUDE OR GTFO!!!!! just kidding haha the only time ive seen a del sol off the road is when someone is modifying it lol h22 rwd del sols are kick a$$ del sol is usually a bit small for everyone though unless you like 5'4 im 6' and i couldn't stand it then agian is i sit strait up in the lude my hair grazes.
^I'm 6'3" and I had plenty of room in a del sol...I probably had more room than in the 'lude because there is no imitation/unusable back seat in it like in the 'lude.
