hey its just begining to get a little hot down here in texas and my car is already overheating!!!
its around 80-90 out and if i have my ac on i will overheat, and even without the ac on i will too.
i have a 4th gen (96)with the jdm h22 swap, less than 2 years with me,
when the swap was performed the water pump, timing belt and gaskets etc. were all replaced.
last year my oem radiator was leaking so it was replaced with a C&R all aluminum radiator w/ fan. i also installed a second fan to help.
i am currently using honda coolant/ antifreeze, its green and concentrated so i had to add water to it.. What if i didnt add enough water (50/50) would that make it overheat? Do you guys think if i flush it all out and use the honda "Blue" coolant it would help? i also just bleed the system to get rid of bubbles...
When it does go over the 1/2 mark, and i turn off the motor and immediately turn it either on or to the 1st click the meter will go back to the 1/2 mark.
if anyone can help or has the same issues, please speak up, i/we need to get past this.
this is my daily driver, i would like to keep it that way.
yeah, i do think so. i havent checked while it was overheating but i do know for sure they both work and turn on but when it goes over next time ill check for the fans. But im pretty sure they are coming on while its over heating
may just need to get a therm that starts the fans 20 degrees colder, what kind of fans did you get exactly? Check your coolant lines to be sure they are actually tight and next time around check out amsoil.com and get their mixed antifreeze
one fan came with the c&r radiator its like 12+in and i bought an ebay one 10in
the coolant lines appear pretty tight, there arent any leaks & all hoses clamped tight.
what makes amsoil.com mixed antifreeze better than honda's
what if i went with strictly coolant? it doesnt freeze around here. would that help or not matter?
when was the last time you did a coolant flush? What about your temp sensor? I've always use Honda coolant in my car and haven't had a overheating problem.
well the coolant is the original that i put in last year when i replaced the radiator. which one is the temp sensor? if it has any relation to the thermostat then i should have changed it when the thermo was replaced. is it small round and green?

Yea, the one in the thermostat is what I was talking about
well i have wrapped the headers(had no heat shield) and moved the license plate (it was blocking the right side of the radiator) i think it may have helped, but it hasnt been too hot lately. We'll see.

i just prefer amsoil's as it has worked very well in my sisters accord since i was 16 and have used it with my lude since i got it in 06

like 1897 is saying, have you checked the condition of your thermostat?
wait wait, re reading your first post...just how far over half way does it go on your gauge exactly? Have you actually seen smoke come out of the engine bay in any spot?
it has gone 1,2,&3 notches above the 1/2 mark.. but thats on a digital guage.
usually when it goes one notch over i start freaking out. Its the open deck design that concerns me.
But it has been OK for at least the last couple of days...
my car does the same thing as urs i freak out when it goes past half so i slow down untill it goes back, but last night i was thinking that mabe it goes past the half mark because the fan is off, but when it hits past the half mark the fan will stay on until it goes back... i drove it past the half mark for 1 hr n it did not go any farther. once i let off the gas.. about 15 secs later it went back to half.
get a high flow radiator, cause with vtec you can't have the base radiator, you have to have the one that comes with a stock vtec prelude or get an aftermarket one that is higher flow, if you didn't change the radiator when you did the swap thats the problem
dude, i got the C&R radiator, its super high flow,
and everything has been Fine since i wrapped the headers and relocated the license plate that was blocking the air flow
On my car the coolant lines that ran to/from the Idle Air Control valve have been removed.
when the day is hot, and A/C running, when driving and then taking the car out of gear the car will cut off suddenly and die.
i seems like the IAC valve is having a hard time getting the air flow right.
Could it be the missing coolant lines making it get too hot,
or could my IAC valve just going bad?
