I usually change my Mobil 1 at 7,000 but due to the weather and scheduling etc.. I definetly fell behind that schedule. At least 9,000+
But just recently checking the oil it appears ok, not that dark, and this ofcourse is with adding a few quarts here and there due to Vtec's consumption.
Just curious, what would be too extreme of a delay?
Or what is your sheduled oil change with synthetics?

A guy I work with, his father is on like 50k miles w/o changing his synthetic oil. He has it tested like every 5k miles and makes sure its always filled up to optimal levels.
every 3000 miles for mine
it really depends, if you drive less than 2-3 miles per day and do that everyday, then that would be considered severe driving condition and chage that oil often, or/and if its under boost then it should have shorter intervals as well
i used to change every 3k but after reading the articles by that dude on here who tested the oil and its lifespan, i now beleive 5k is the wiser choice.
the tests showed mobile 1 is good for up to 7,500-10,000 miles, but it really depends on how much work the engine has perormed and how its being performed.
as close to 3000 as possible... havent let it go over 5000 with the vtec.
usually add 1-2 quarts between changes. use mobil 1 10W-30. (synthetic goes way to quick for me due to minor oil leak, and frequent vtec use.. usually one vtec hit per drive )
If your going to change your oil every 3k anyway, I don't see why you would bother with synthetic since its much more expensive. You are not getting your money's worth.

The oil is good for 7k plus but the filters usually aren't. For common over-the-counter filters, Mobil 1 and K&N are pretty much the only ones good for longer drain intervals (Amsoil and and a few others are great but not easy to get at your local Autozone/Kragen/etc).
Bosch has gone down in quality as have some of the Wix filters (I can't even remember which Wix model is still a good extended drain interval filter).

simply put, just to save the turbos and i think its worth every penny

Every 3500 miles. I know you can easily take it to 5,000 and perhaps 7,500 as both the manual and some of the folks here suggest, but it really depends on how you drive the car on a regular basis.
I have a mix of short driving on some days and long highway drives on others. I'd describe my driving as smooth but aggressively spirited. On that basis, I'm more comfortable changing the synthetic every 3,500 miles. Were I driving a turbocharged car I'd change it every 2,000-2,500 miles as an outright rule.
Changing the oil way too early is pointless and a waste of money. Changing the oil filter too early isn't a good idea as the oil filter actually filters better after it has some junk in it as the the holes to pass though the oil filter become smaller with the more larger debris that get caught in it. The only way to determine when the optimal point is ot change your oil is to get it tested. In the long run it saves you hundreds of dollars that you would of wasted on buying more oil filters and oil.
