STOCK EXHAUST and TEST PIPE

What do you guys think of test pipe on a stock exhaust on a 5th gen?

Most people complain that the test pipe will make the car smell, but is that with a modified catback exhaust or with a stock exhaust? Therefore, do you believe it will be loud and be smelly if I just have a test pipe on a stock exhaust with all the resonators and the big huge muffler?

Can anyone with stock exhaust and testpipe tell me how it is.

Thanky thanky PEEOH.

the sound will depend on whether you keep the stock resonator or not. it won't get super raspy all of a sudden if you keep the resonator, but the note will have a bit of an edge to it.

the smell will still be an issue with the stock exhaust because the cat is what takes care of the unburnt fuel.

it's not really worth it either, since an exhaust system only really flows as much as its smallest diameter component. not sure how restrictive the stock cat is, but even if the test pipe frees up some backpressure, it's not really gonna do you any good with the stock piping.

Nah, I'm getting the ECS, and since I cant have the ECS before the CAT, I have to have it welded with the testppe. So flowing doesnt really mattery, just the smelliness and loudness.

what's an ECS?

well, it'll smell, but it won't be too loud. might sound buzzy though.

Electronic Cut Out, a system that electronically opens a dump tube on the exhaust to become open header.

Hows the cops on the bitc hiness on the test pipe?

EDIT: do ALL testpipes, even with o2 bung have CEL codes?

whether a cop will mess with you for exhaust mods is pretty much dependent on how pissy the cop is feeling at that particular moment

i think all test pipes will throw a code.

usually the reason for throwing the code is because after a while, the O2 sensor becomes too dirty to give an accurate reading. what i mean by 'dirty' is that it becomes kinda clogged up with all the crap the cat was taking out of the exhaust. i'm sure you'll find ppl that have run a test pipe for a while with no problems, but i had this same problem on another car i put a test pipe on.

a cop usually will not notice the test pipe, but they will definitely notice at the emissions station if they are using underbody mirrors to look at things. if there are no CEL codes, and they don't look underneath, you should be good to go.

The car will throw codes with a test pipe because the secondary O2 sensor will be reading basically the same as the primary O2.

Catless exhaust smells pretty damn bad, it is a very distinctive smell. It is also a $2500 + fine. A cop doesn't need to get under the car to know you don't have a cat.
It is usually pretty obvious when a car doesn't have a cat by just sitting behind it at a light.

Generally, I don't think it will be something they let you off on. For what you will pay for a testpipe, get a highflow cat, it will flow just as good as a open pipe.
