spare tire?

how long is it safe to drive on a spare tire? my front driver's side tire has gone to heaven and i'm on the spare right now. tuition and books have left me broke until my next payday (a week & 1/2 from now). so i have to wait until then to buy a new tire. any guidelines to driving on the spare? and does anyone know where i can buy a dirt cheap tire that i might use if it's not safe to use the spare for so long? thanks guys.

I've ran on my spare for about 1 whole week. No problems at all. You should move one of your rears to the front and run the spare on your rear instead. And don't take it up past 50mph, at least that's what it says on there. I've taken it to 80 couple times, no problems, but I'd never do that again.

Avoid running it on highway speeds as much as possible. Other than that, you should be OK for a little while.

I used the spare tire once and it was scary..especially on a lowered car. I didn't go past 50 mph. Does anyone know if a full size tire will fit in the same compartment?

I tried fitting a full size spare...no such luck. Now that I am running a 225 tire, it is even harder to fit a tire back there. I hope i never am on a road a trip and have to find a replacement tire...it might take days since they would have to be ordered.

If you just need a cheap one to fit your need temporarily you can try your local tire shops looking for a used one.

Oh...yea...buy a used tire.. when I used to be broke.. i would go into those mexican tire shops and they would always have used tires that were still okay. Cost like only 15 bucks.

I keep my 5th tantrum with tire in the back, it will fit as far as the diameter but I had to build a custom cover which raised my floor about 3 inches with the tire back there. I'de show you pics but webshots is down
