SoCal'rs or warm climate peeps only...10w30 year round?

The reason I ask is.. just decided to go synthetic (13k miles). Ran to Walmart(Newhall-Valencia area) last night and bought 6 5qt jugs of Mobil 1(10w30). They have at least 6 more if anyone is looking, still at 16.97ea.

I tried comparing 5w30 to 10w30, both dino, on my last two changes and really didn't notice any difference. The first week or so the 10w30 appeared a bit heavier, but this may have been my imagination. Oh well, Walmart only had the 10w30..so I bought it.

I use 10w30 all year round. My dad told me I should use 5w30 though during the summer. I don't know what to do..hahaha..

I use 10W30 year round in my lude. It stays pretty warm here and gets hot during the summer.

I thought you were supposed to use the 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer. If you change between the two.

Well, I just put in 10w30 Mobil 1 and it definitely looked thinner than dino oil, even compared to 5w30 dino. So I don't think 10w30 will be too heavy. Performance wise...just put it in on Sunday so i'll have to get back to u once i've had a chance to drive it aggressively.

Btw, i guess i missed the previous discussions on this back in April. I thought i did a search before, but i thought wrong.

10 and 5 are the "cold" weights on a 10-30 or 5-30 multi-weight oils. Shouldn't matter for hot performance other than your warming up period. Here in the dog summer days in Tx I still used 5-30 and noticed faster cold starts than my 10-30 friends and other 10-30 vehicles.

Interesting note, Honda now recommends 10-30 for the S2k (and I'd assume RSX and Civic) unless you frequently see temps below 0 degrees, THEN they recommend 5-40.

5-30 has been commonly recommended for improved mileage. I don't think switching to 10-30 will buy you increased protection, the engine was designed for 5-30.

I put in 10w30 cause i'm a bargain hunter and Walmart didn't have 5w30 in 5q. jugs. Also, figured smaller spread between cold and hot is good, and it never gets below 40*F in SoCal.

Thanks for the help everyone.
