Smog

Ok i went over to a local smog guy today and was talking to him. First thing he said is that he is not allowed to look under my hood unless im getting the smog check done. But after talking to him for about 10 mins he musta decided i wasnt with the STATE and he took a look. Well here is what he told me. The JDM h22a engine is ok. As long as all the smog stuff is there he has no problems. As for my cheap intake, he said i should prolly put the stocker back on but it would prolly pass. Then there was my custom JDM header. haha. He asked if i could get the CARB info for it. hahahaa. I said even if i could read Japenese i would never figure it out. Also if it's from japan there is NO way its carb legal. But he said as long as i have my O2 sensor on its ok. He kept asking if i have BOTH O2 sensors but my 4th gen only comes with one. He said its ok also.

I can do a pretest which enters nothing into the computer but that will cost me 36$. Then another 36$ to do the actual smog.

BTW this is SO cali.

You can have it tested, and if it fails you have 30 days to come back and have it pass... and the second test is free as long as it occurs within the 30 days. Its California law.

Yeah I am also wondering that sub, I have a few concerns as well, like do vafc's make you fail, and also what about my h23vtec. I know the engine code is on the block, but if the guy really knows what he is doing he is going to know that the head doesn't go with the block. And I am wondering if I should take my nitrous off. I can't offord to be made to take it to a state facilty. I am kinda stressin here.

Most of the guys who run the test only stations don't really know that much about cars. They just know how to preform the whole smog test procedure. Dont stress about it too badly. I would take off the nitrous for extra security, but they don't care about intakes, or headers. Dont worry about the H23-VTEC, as long as you have the smog equipment in the correct locations, they will pass you.

Also, don't forget to have the car warmed up before they test it... I failed, and it turned out that my cat wasn't hot enough yet to decrease emissions. It had been sitting and waiting until it was my turn to go. So he just let it warm up a bit , and re-tested and it passed with flying colors.

I dont think the vafc will bug most of them, if they ask just tell them its your radar detector. haha

Yea i still gota go in, i need to do it soon so i can get my new exaust and a few other things done.

Im prolly gona go in a do a pretest, if i pass im gona just quickly retest and be done with it. if i fail nothing gets put into the computer and i have no problems.

This guy is actually Knoledeable because he races porshes. But he has the same problems with his car and smog. So he is very sympathetic. Just dont be an ass when you go in to get it done.

Are all places in so cal test only now?

Geez that sucks. Otherwise, I would just go some place where they don't look too closely to anything under the hood.

Smog fees + $20 cash will get you through.

The place actually has to say "SMOG Test Only"... if it is a gas station that does SMOG checks, that is all they do... checks. In order to completerequirements, you have to o to a "Test Only" center.
