Slanted exhaust

Hey guys I've seen plenty of cars with exhaust muffler slanted to the left or right side and wondered how they did that? Can you do that with any exhaust, for example the greddy evo2? Or do you buy it like that? I searched on the forum and couldn't find much.

the exhaust shop just installs it that way

imo a useless, "ricey" mod.

but then again the 4th gen jun prelude had it

Some mufflers come that way from the Manufactuer. They are usually expensive tested pipes that really increses HP+ !!! but most guys get some knock off muffler barrel and take it to a muff shop and have it slanted sideways. If its a real brand, then it looks and sounds good. In some cases where its your own MOD....well then its Overall aspect looks tacky and sounds like crap.... BOLT ON is the way to go unless u wanna join the thousands of ricers out there trying to keep up with the ludezzzz....LOLZ.....

less bends = less air restriction = more power?

like someone mentioned, the slant is a design to allow maximum efficiency flow of the exhaust through the reduction of bends in the piping....

for example, take a look at this JIC exhaust for the STi.

there are very few bends and the bends that are there are at the lowest angle possible...

whereas this Borla exhaust that uses a standard muffler has 2 higher angled bends right before the muffler...

in many cases, those that have attempted to slant their exhausts have done it simply for the looks and actually end up putting a large angled bend right before the muffler in order to get the slant look....

for those that are familiar with the JUN 4th Gen, they have prolly seen this picture showing their custom catback exhaust with a similar design....this also makes it superior in terms of flow...

if less bends was the case, might as well do it porsche boxster style with the middle muffler.

but nobody wants to do that because it looks stupid doesn't it? well using that same logic on the slanted one, its all the same.
