retapping threads

I need to 'clean up' two threads on my crank in order for the flywheel bolts to screw in by hand. The threads are damaged around the outer rim as a result of the bolts breaking loose (see link). The flywheel bolts are 12mmx1.0, so is that the tap size I need? I've looked around on the net and that tap size is really hard to find. Does anyone know somewhere I can get individual taps? I don't really want to buy an entire set. Also, if anyone can confirm the tap size I need that would be great! Thanks for the help..

The bolts are M12 x 1.00, and that's the size tap you need.

McMaster Carr sells that size (www.mcmaster.com). It's about $30 for a tap in that size. M12 x 1.00 is ultra fine, so it'll be difficult to find elsewhere.

Yea Mcmaster had the tap that i needed to clean up the tranny -> engine bolt holes that got a little messed up.

I would get the "taper" tap. That will assure that you line up the tap. you will not need the tap to the bottom of the hole, so no need for a "plug" or "bottom" taps.

Good luck. take you time and everything should work out for you.
