EWWW! I was just thinking about replacing mine today...my car is 10 years old and I don't think they've ever been replaced. How much were the new filters and how hard was it to switch them?

UHhh...i may be wrong but i don't think 4th gens had them. I think only 99+ had them. They weren't hard to install at all. Kinda expensive for filters though. $50 for the 2.

Hm, are you sure? I'm pretty sure the A/C has a filter.

Scriber's right, the dust/pollen cabin filter only came on 99+ ludes. Even the 97-98 ludes dont have em.

Ya I found out that 4G's don't have them last week when I ended up pushing some leaves down the outside intakes while trying to clear them away. Got in, turned on the car and BOOM, I was covered in ground up leaves! Turned a bad hair day into a bad dandruff day.

We don't have them I saw a picture of a 99 with that black cowl below the surrounding the windshield wipers removed. On the passenger side the 99 had a air duct and when I took mine off a week or so before, I didn't have anything in that space.

Several of you have e-mailed me asking how to change the filters.
1. Unbolt the glove compartment, 2 bolts in back and the arm thing on the right.
2. Cut the plastic bar sitting in front of the filter compartment. I cut the whole thing off, cuz thats what the helms says to do, plus i got rid of a whole 3 oz.!!!
3. Take off the lid of the filter compartment, unlatch from the bottom and swing it up.
4. Pull out the filters and replace. There are 2 of them, take bottom 1 out first.

Also, use the search function and you'll find another post w/the same info and pics. Thats where i looked first, before doing it.

Can they be retrofitted to 97-98 models? How would you do this?
(full instructions, if anyone's done it)

This is the micron airfilter right? I'm fairly sure the 97-98 models have them as well (remember seeing it on my window sticker).

Nope, I am for sure that 97-98 doesn't have them. It even says so in the HELM. Plus if you go to the dealership, they can't find such part on the 97-98. Micron Airfilter was one of the reason my friend bought the Prelude(heavy allergy person), but then he found out he didn't even have one when he was trying to change it, cause it's a 97. Unless it's only USA that didn't get it for 97-98?
