Removing Window Tint

HEy guys, first off yes I searched and I'm still having a tough time removing this sorry ass tint that the person who owned this car before me put on... I wanna know how to remove the tint and sticky stuff all in one swipe.. Also whats the best way to approach the rear deck without destroying the heating elements.. I'm thinking I'll just have them tint right over that old tint in the back, doesn't hurt no one....

Any tips would be great...

Hey, I just removed my tint today! Its alot easier than most people think. I searched this board and found a post about it. Basically what you need is some citrus cleaner (goo gone!), Windex (the offbrand glass cleaner sucks compared to Windex, so just use Windex!), two terry cloth towels, a razor blade, some plastic wrap, and a sunny day! Then follow these steps:

1) Soak rag with citrus cleaner.
2) Tear a sheet of the plastic wrap and set it beside you (I let it lie over my leg so it didnt get all messed up, you know how plastic wrap does..)
3) While the tint is on the window, wipe it down with the soaked rag.
4) Before the cleaner dries, cover a portion of the window with the plastic wrap (you have to do it fast because the cleaner dries fast when its in direct sunlight, this is why you go ahead and get the plastic wrap ready in step 2)
5) Repeat until you have covered the entire window.
6) Repeat steps 1-5 with the rest of the windows that have tint on them.
7) Go have a beer or something for about 45 minutes while your windows bake in the sun (the sun heats up the glue so it will come off easy and the citrus cleaner is absorbed by the tint to help the glue come off)
8) Take the razor and scrape up a corner of the tint so you can grab it with your fingers (I just cut a slit in the top-middle of the window and pulled it down and to the side)
9) Pull the tint off SLOWLY and SMOOTHLY! (it seems to leave less glue residue if you pull the tint against itself. ie. pull it back flat against the window instead of pulling straight out towards you)
10) Take a clean terry cloth towel and spray it generously with Windex.
11) Wipe away any small remains of glue that are left behind.
12) Go have another beer.

I hope this helps, the only part that takes any time is waiting for the citrus cleaner to soak into the tint while it heats up. I dind't find it necessary to use any device (heat gun or blow drier) to heat up the window because it was a nice sunny 70 degree day
The purpose of the plastic wrap is to lock in the citrus cleaner so it can do its work. Otherwise it just dries up and doesn't help at all then you end up making a big mess!

Try doing it on the small side windows and using a hair dryer to heat the window (make sure you heat it from the OUTSIDE of the window or you might melt the plastic wrap!) Should work that way..patience is key but then you have to sit there for half an hour heating the window instead of propping your feet up =]

I have a friend that tinits windows and what he did was cut a black 30 gallon trash bag down the seams to make a big sheet of plastic and layed it on the outside of the rear window. After an hour in the sun the tint peeled right off. We did this when it was 50 degrees outside. It left the glue on the window but then you use an Ammonia based cleaner to remove the glue. Have fun!
