You could paint it with some high temp paint (ceramic based works good), but it might burn/flake off from the heat. I don't have any experience with powdercoating exhaust items so I don't know how it would hold up to the heat. You will want to scuff the surface of the header up before you paint it to promote a little better adhesion. Any particular reason you want to paint your SS header?

Get it ceramic coated. A good coating shop should be able to do it in dark/black.
This place in santa clara does coating.

check them out... it's hard to find the info on the website, but give 'em a call.

Not if you want it ceramic coated. Your next best bet would be VHT high-temp paint, but I dunno what kind of life it would have on a header.
Think of it this way- your IAT will be lower, along with the rest of your underhood temps. You'll heat the cat to operating temperature sooner, so the car will run cleaner.
Finally, hot exhaust gases move faster, so you may pick up a little power.
Real coating shops can do the inside and outside with no runs, drips or bubbles. Good luck trying to do the inside on your own!

You could also fab up some way of mounting to stock heatshield back on there to cover the header up Even if the header is coated black a cop might spot it.
