I got a Prelude SI 94. I want to paint my hood because the paint is fading. Anyone know the price for that? Or should I get a carbon fiber instead? I'm kinda short on cash so I wanna know which one is the best choice.
please help! Thanks guys!!!!
The best thing you can do is paint your hood original OEM color. Should cost 800 bucks for a very good quality paint job. Avoid black which will make you look like a ricer and avoid fake carbon fiber which will make you look like an egg roll.
Paint in OEM color or get REAL carbon fiber hood. Anything else will make you look like a rice dealer.
Theres no good choices there if you dont have cash.
If you wanna do this correctly it will cost!
...but since you dont have cash, you could try to paint that hood yourself. thats the cheapest choice. just buy sand paper, sand the hood as well as you can, then maybe some spray paint (some as close to your car colour as possible) and then varnish (right word?)/clear coat after that
if you dont buy cheapest stuff and do this correctly the outcome could be "satisfying"
find some cardboard first where you can practise spraying the paint

$800 to paint just a hood? Damn, what places are you going to? If he does it himself, it won't cost anywhere near that much. In my area, it'd cost anywhere between $200-$400 depending on where you go. Me personally, I do paint and body, and I'd only charge $200-$250 depending on the color, cause some cost more than others.

I got quoted ~$400 by 3 or 4 different shops when I need get a dent pulled and my hood repainted. I decided to spend that money plus a little more on a cf hood instead.
I recommend this site: Hoods as they offer free shipping on Siebon. It costs about $150 in shipping if you get a cf hood anywhere else. Also, don't fall for the "free shipping only in the next 24 hours" crap, they've been offering that since I bought my hood more than 6 months ago.

like I said, 800 for a very good quality paint job. Almost OEM quality.
what you and other people pay, 200 - 400 bucks, is for a low end paint job, and there is no fukkin way you are charging 250 for a top quality oem paint job. I don't know your skills, but for oem paint job, the materials alone will cost 300.
get the carbon hood, look great, alot lighter should b cheap in the states to get, only problem the lacker fades in the sunlight after about 2 years but u can buff it back up

I got quoted about $400 from a Honda dealership to get my hood painted. That is what you would could call an OEM quaility paint job, no? You know, using OEM paint being applied by a Honda body shop and all. That price also included pulling a good sized dent out, without that, it would have been less. It does not cost $800 to get a hood painted. It does not require $300 is materials. Just stop. You are wrong.

to have a good looking paint job, you don't have to use high end quality products. It's all about having good prep work before painting, and then someone with good skills at buffing afterwards. Using paint such as PPG will look just about the same as using Omni which is a lower end of PPG and it's still going to look as good.

I want to paint it myself but the problem is I don't have a place to paint my car. The neighbors will complain about it. It also takes alot of hard work painting it by yourself right?
Thanks for your help guys. I didn't know there are fake carbon fiber hoods out there. scary....

no, it doesnt need to have big place, you can do it outside (just choose good day to do it: not much wind/not too moist/not too sunny). then just take the hood off first that you can sand it properly. then paint it

Thanks. I think I'll just buy a carbon fiber hood. Why do you recommend seibon?

I have a Seibon OE style hood, and fitment is just as good as OEM. Some people have had issues with VIS not fitting right. On top of that, if you get your hood from the site I linked, Seibon is actually cheaper because of the free shipping.

I could post a copy of the receipt, along with the ~$500 each I paid them to repaint my bumpers, but you are just not worth my time. Believe whatever you want, it makes no difference to me.

I know how that goes. I have a ***** neighbor as well that would complain about me working on cars in my backyard. He would call the city all the time, so I'd be working around his schedule to help reduce that.. The painting part is easy, the prepping is what takes the longest

Ok, called 2 dealerships in NYC area, both said they don't paint anything onsite LOL...They told me to call the larger dealership in South Jersey. Called them, and was quoted 950 just to prep, prime and paint. They said they also have to feather in the edges of the hood so it matches the fenders. Makes sense since old paint in the sun and bad weather loses its exact color over time. They also said any damages would cost extra.
