Pinstriping Removal Help

Hey guys,

I need some help here. When I purchased my Lude I could tell that a girl had owned it. One of the major things was this sad looking pink and purple pin striping on the entire car (SHE PAID $250 AT THE DEALER FOR IT. I HAVE THE PURCHASE RECEIPT).

I took it to a couple body shops and they wanted to charge me $100+ to remove it. So i decided to go to the local Home Depot and ask what the shops might be using to take it off. They sold me this stuff called acitone. I got home and began rubbing it on the striping. To my shock it actually worked for everything except my left rear quarter panel.

THIS IS WHERE I NEED SOME HELP - SUGGESTIONS OF ANY KIND

No matter what i do i cannot get this section of paint to come off. I tried f-n' rubbing and it just won't come off. I called a buddy and he thought that it may be under the clear coat which would've hardened and i won't be able to get it off. Is he right, or is there some other product that i can use to get this crap off. I have to do it soon my car looks so much better without it .

BTW i have a Nordic Mist 5th gen. (already tried touch up paint- doesn't work.)

I AM TAKING ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS HELP!!!!

if its vinyl you can peel it off, if its paint, then you have to sand it out.

same problem I have on my front passanger fender. There was clear coat applied on top of it and then another pinstripe was place over the clear coat. I got the top stripe out, but couldnt get the second one because it was under the clear coat. I don't care much about mine since I plan on repainting the car soon, but if there is an easy way to get it off, I would like to know as well.

Run your fingers over it. Can you feel the texture of the stripe, or does it just feel like regular paint. If it's the latter it's probably under the clear coat. If not, try putting some Gasoline/Diesel on a rag and rubbing it. If that does not work, try doing the same thing with rubbing alcohol. Also, don't let either of those sit on your paint. Wipe it up, and make sure to apply a little quick wax to the area.

The reason you want to try gasoline AND/OR rubbing alcohol is because gasoline is a non-polar compound, whereas rubbing alcohol is polar. non-polar desolves non-polar, consequently polar solvents will dissolve polar compounds (the compound being whatever glue **** they used to stick the strips on there). If neither of these work chances are its under the clear coat.

Dude that's HARSH... if it's not clearcoated, I'd just use a hair dryer or heat gun. Much safer for the finish.

He doesn't have the stick on stripes so a heat gun will NOT work. I had painted on stripes when I first got mine too. I was able to take them all off with some solvent (acytone like you). Unfourtunatly it sounds like that panel has had a coat of clear over it so you will not be able to get the stripe off unless you sand done through the clear and take out the stripe, then you will have to re-clear it and possible repaint the panel.

you can buy brake clean over the counter

i think it's made by crc.. not sure though.. it's like a red can.. just ask the parts guy for brake clean.. they'll know what it is... mostly used to spray down brake dust and clean up of oil changes and stuff.. but hell.. it works with what you put it to..heheh

Have you ever wet sanded before? If not, I'd be careful...

I used a blow dryer and goo gone. Then a compound to remove the remaining gunk.
