Painting A CAI, can it be done nicely?

i just got an Iceman CAI for $75, a good deal i think, however, i needed it in blue, not red, which is the color it came in. Can i change it to blue? I dont want it red under my car, otherwise everything will be blue and i'll have a red intake.... HELP!

yea...

my intake when i painted it silver:

same intake redone in ceramic based black spraypaint and clearcoat:

The silver looked nice for a while, but since I didn't clearcoat it, the paint started rubbing off and it became dull.

I don't think you need high-temp paint for the intake. Clearcoat is a must.

I got a guy that might be able to powder coat it, do you think that would yield good results?

If he can powder coat plastic, yes. You should be able to do a nice job with spraypaint as well. I'd use a semi-gloss high temp paint. Semi-gloss so it doesn't get splotchy if oil gets on it, and high temp because, it is in the engine bay, and most of those paints are ceramic based, which will help the insulation of the intake, even just a little. You don't need a clearcoat, do two light coats within an hour of each other, more if the red still shows through.

powdercoating the intake might cost more than the intake itself, kinda defeats the purpose don't it?

The chrome on those cheap ones starts to look crappy after a few months... atleast mine did, hence my reason for painting it.
