other air filters besides K&N for my AEM CAI...?

i was reading my new issue of super street where one section introduces this prety neat air filter called Hyper Ractive. they said "it has a conical design combined with a heat shield to keep under the hood air going in at cooler temperatures." ive seen similar stuff like this but never paid much attention to them till now. it looks pretty sweet too, like the front of an airplane engine.

my question is, is there really a better filter than the plain ol K&N or r they all just for looks? i mean, can they actually suck in colder air or more air? im not looking for a 20hp gain or even any really. but knowing i "can" get better and more efficient air in than my K&N one is a good idea to me.

so r there better filters out there that makes an actual difference? which ones do u guys recommend?

A lot of those filters seem to be trying to make up for the disadvantages of underhood intakes (the heat and lack of air rushing over it). PLus since you can't see an AEM's filter, looks don't matter too much.

The filter sits in your fender well anyway so the heatshield is useless. I say just stick with K&N.

I agree w/ u guys that the filter won't make a diff. performance wise

However, I tend to think this Ractive thing might help in terms of preventing suction of moisture. Since the filter has a plastic cover over the sides of the filter, that eliminates much of the area exposed to possible water.

I'm actually thinking if we can use the Ractive cover for the K&N, since the top part of the filter has the chrome pc. Add in the Ractive cover and we could cover up the filter almost entirely. Now that would be a good peace of mind!!!

Only thing is, is the Ractive just a cover over the filter?
And how do we attach the cover over the K&N w/out it falling off?

Guinea Pig, anyone????
