Just a while a go I replaced the distibutor with a used one, because it was giving me a lot of hesitation. When I got the new distd. the car was running fine, then the tachometer started jumping and then I started getting hesitation in when VTEC kicks in. I can't even go past 6,000 rpm as it will start poping. When I first bought the car it was driving good no hesitation or anything. and then the distd. started acting weird and the same with the new one. The car is '94 VTEC, What could be causing the distd. to bad and did I just ened up if another bad apple?
By the way, the new distr. was of a '93 Si 115,000 ml. The distd. looked like it was new. So someone already ened up replacing it. It said Honda on the cap but it might be possible the distd. was bought in NAPA or something.
Originally posted by vtecprelude I think the distributor for VTEC and Si is the same. I'm just going to purchase the new distd. from honda and see how it goes.
actually they are different

im running my 2.2 vtec with my old 2.3 nonvtec distributor no problem except one. i do believe its going bad cause i get slight hesitation at 6.5k.
vtecprelude do you still have the two old distributors? if so do you have any plans for them? if you just wanna get rid of them i'd like to tear them apart and see if i couldn't find anything wrong with it and mix and match with mine. if you dont mind.
v
darklude the 92-95 ARE diff than that of 96+ due to obdII.

For an odd hesitation at a certain RPM or range, that goes away at a higher RPM, I'd be looking at the O2, MAP, or a/f mapping (if you have an AFC) for the problem- not the distributor.
This is assuming you have good plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. I wouldn't troubleshoot the dizzy before those.
