Oil weight in regards to burning

If I'm seeing high iron and burning oil with my 126k H22 would there be any advantage to moving to a 10w30 oil instead of the 5w30 I run now? Also I'm using Mobil 1, can I gain any longevity out of switching to something different?

Give castrol syntec 0w-30 a try. That's what im using in my euro-r motor. its thicker than most 5w, 10w-30 motor oils.

Yeah, that's why I thought HRVstyle's post about 0W30 being thicker than 5W30 and 10W30 to be misinforming

Im not spreading misinfomation. Castrol Syntec 0w-30 is an ACEA A3 motor oil for high performance/extended drain intervals. This motor oil is thicker than mobil1 10w-30 at 40C, 100C, 150C. It is gets a 0w because it meets the specs at very cold temperatures. This oil is Porsche approved and meets the manufactures requirements for bmw longlife-01, MB 229.1,229.3,229.5, VW 505 00, 502 00, 503 00. Does your motor oil meet any of these manufacturer's approvals?

on the usdm motor with 125k, i used valvoline max life. Its a synthetic blend. It considerably dropped my oil usage. I used 10w30. I was amazed that my oil level at halfway between changes had only dropped one line on the stick, where prior to this oil (mobil 1 full synthetic) i had to add another quart.

I actually just switched to the german castrol 0w-30 (5000 miles ago). Getting ready to send it in for the first analysis. Switched from Mobil1 5w-30.

I noticed a reduction in oil consumption after switching back to Castrol SyntecBlend from Mobil 1. I've been running a combo of 10w30 and 10w40 for the second half of the summer. I'd say the oil consumption has been cut in half. I'm going to switch to a blend of 5w30 and 10w30 in 1000 miles, when my next change is due, for the winter. I'm @ 117k miles.
