oil pan gasket

So I've tried numerous times to get my oil pan gasket right, but after the 3rd time I accepted a slow drip as acceptable (> 1qt/3k miles). It's finally annoyed me enough to think about maybe actually paying someone to screw another RTV gasket, as I'm done with trying.

I've looked before, and searched, but where, WHERE, can I find a real gasket so I don't have to pay someone I don't know to do work that I can do? Even if I have to cut my own gasket I'd be okay with that. Has ANYBODY done any oil pan gasket besides RTV or silicon gasket maker?

I had the same problem. Buy a genuine honda gasket and use silicone around the gasket.. fixed my problem.

the 'genuine honda gasket' is a little strip of rubber that seals below the oil pump housing. That's not where it's leaking. I'm talking about a traditional style gasket here.

I'll have to pick some up if I can't find an easier solution. I'm not looking forward to doing this again, but I can't stand paying someone else to do work I can do, lol.

the honda bond way is really easy. just make sure that there are no breaks in the line, and you're set.

Yeah I know how to apply RTV/silicon sealant, but each of the three times I did it it leaked in the same spot, the corner just aft of the oil pump, where there's a compound bend and less contact metal for the RTV to bond to. I'll give the hondabond a shot I suppose.

How long are you supposed to let the hondabond set for before you mate the two parts together? How long do you have to let it cure before you can run the engine?

hmmmmm not sure how long to have it set. i just made sure everything was really clean before i put it on. i put it on pretty much right after i laid out the hondabond.

and i'm not sure how long to have it cure. my car was probably sitting un-driven for a day or two before i got it running. sorry about the vague answers, i guess i was just pretty lucky with no leaks.

Just for clarity, the part of the engine the gasket seals is on the opposite side of the engine from the oil pump. The oil pump is on the front of the engine.

I haven't found anything that works as good as Hondabond HT. I've used it for years without any problems.

If you want to use a "regular" oil pan gasket, convert to a 4Gen oil pan and gasket. You can't use the 5Gen engine stiffener. You'll have to use the 4Gen stiffener and flywheel cover.
