Okay this past Friday I did an oil/oil filter change on the prelude.. Now I know when you remove the old filter from the block the "grommet" thingy sometimes comes off the filter, so you have to make sure it is not still on the "block" when I took off the old one, I THINK I noticed that it was mising its "grommet" so I looked on the block, (oil filter recepticle thingy) and noticed that indeed there was a circular grommet still on there, so I removed it, cleaned the mating surface, and installed the new oil filter. NOW it seems as if I am leaking oil Directly from where the filter meets the block.. the oil pressure sensor is all covered in oil.. and the is oil on the oil filter itself,.. which make me believe that oil is leaking out of the mating surface and "travelling" due to the velocity of the car down the oil filter etc.. NOW my question is, is there ALSO ANOTHER seal that is supposed to stay on the "block" of the car that I might have removed by accident.. I am thinking that maybe I grabbed the wrong part # filter..and I am just gonna go buy a new one...
On this topic, where the HECK do I get a good old MObil oil filter?? THey don;t stock them at the local part store.. nor at the PEP boys.. any help??
Stop by your friendly <G> Honda dealer and plunk for the real thing. WHile there ask about the o-rings. BTW: you did put a NEW crush washer on the drain plug-if not spend the $0.25 and redo your oil change.
Happy Luding

Are you sure that it's not just the oil that spilled when you removed the filter? It makes a mess. I assume you cleaned it up when you did the change, and it's leaked beyond that?

No.

Have the box? Check the number on it. Depending on the brand, there might have been a filter next to it that you picked up that actually would spin on. Buy the right filter and then remove the one on there and check it- you might have the wrong one.

Mobil1, or just "Mobil?" Autozone is the only store I know of that carries the Mobil 1 filters. They also carry STP, AC Delco, and Bosch, all 4 of which are made by Champion Labs. They are all good filters.
Check to make sure the filter is tight, then check the number to make sure it's the right one. If that fails, remove the filter and look for damage to the o-ring or seal. I prefer the round ones as they don't deform or come off the can as often as the square seals.
No Its defienetly a fresh leak.... I cleaned it all up around the filter etc,, after the oil change..
The main reason I think I might have grabbed the wrong filter is because when I took the OLD filter off and placed in the box that the NEW filter came in, the OLD filter barely fit into the box... Unfortunely I tossed the filter and the box out.. oh well..
As for autozone.. dman that means I gotta cruise into Philly to get this filter.. I think for now I am gonna grab a filter from my Honda dealer and put that on... then next oil change pop for a mobil1.. we'll see, but I wanna get this "new" filter off ASAP!
hrm I am using the mobil 1 oversized filter rigt now(m105) used it on my last oil change also...I noticed before I took the old one off that it had some oil on the outside of the filter...think im going to go back to stock size on my next oil change(was to late to bring back the new oversized I bought) heh...mine definatly doesnt leak as much as yours sounds tho...
