Sup guys. I had my acura integra stolen from me a few day ago so I'm thinkin about a new car. I had a buddy with a 97 prelude and it seemed like a really fun car. What if anything do I look for in a used lude and which gen seems to be the most popular and why? Any toughts or info would help. Thanks.
Why does that matter?? Any 12 year old girl can handle the awesome powAr of the Honda Prelude.
On that note, buy the newest one you can afford w/ the lowest miles. And make sure it's a 5sp!!!
well, i was gonna give him the same advice as you...but he's 27? No offense, but shouldn't you know to look for something like that by 27? maybe he wants some real detailed information about the car, iono.
I disagree. If I were interested in a Viper, I'd ask the Viper forums for advice. Just because I'm 28 and have seen them on the road, doesn't mean that I should know what to look for.
Stop hassling him. He has a legit question, we should be answering it.
My version: These cars are very nice as DDs if they are well-maintained. Don't buy a sportshift unless you want to go the extra distance of swapping it to a manual (I don't recommend that). The engine burns a little oil, but besides that and the auto trannies they don't have many flaws.

Obviously I can look up info on preludes myself. I just wanted some feeback from actual owners, such as what models are most beloved by true lude afficionados, if they respond well to tuning and bolt ons, any poblematic features they're infamous for, etc.
I could easily talk for days about tegs, and often give noobs general info about them on the teg forums, such as their notriously slow automtic windows, blah blah.
Like I said, any info would be cool. Just tryin to get a feel for the vibe the cars and the people who love them have. thanks.

X2 on all that.
If the former owner has maintenance records always a plus. Check for timing belt and tensioner being done even if it hasn't hit the mileage yet. They are becoming due to age at this point. The auto tensioners are known to fail.
Sorry for all the B.S. after you 1st asked a legit question.
It's a Honda. You aren't going to see a lot of HP gains / dollar. That said, you can make one more fun to drive than it already is. I had intake, exhaust, vafcII, and fidanza 8lb flywheel. It put down 175 to the front wheels, and was a good dd/weekend track car.
A little stiffer suspension is a must!

well, its a heavy *****, so dont be surprised, but it is decently fast. it doesnt take TOO great to bolt ons, but with slight weight reduction, SRI, test pipe, cat back, i shaved about half a second off my 1/4 e/t.
if you plan on pushing a good amount of power, like going forced induction, i recommend going with a base over an SH. the atts is rumored to malfunction or stop working after a certain amount of power. supposedly, cant say myself, or for fact. but if you got a base, you could always go lsd.
if you do go SH, make sure the ATTS and (with ANY car) CEL light turn on, and off when starting.
other than that, good luck, just try and find one well maintained and as new as possible. research the blue book value before purchase, etc. but you know this.

Well 5th gens have two "models"
Base: 200hp, 5spd or auto, lighter
SH: 200hp, 5spd only, heavier due to ATTS for cornering
Their are other minor differences. Sh has; nicer factory wheels, painted skirts, door light, comes with spoiler and closed deck.
DO NOT GET AN AUTO
My car used to be auto, and I had killed two trannies before going manual. If you do some searching you can find more about the horrible auto or on ATTS.
It all depends on what you have planned for the car. If you plan to do absolutely nothing to it but cosmetic changes, then you can go with either the base or SH. If you plan only on cosmetics and mild bolt-ons, either trim will be fine again. If you plan on modding it with boost or anything, get a base as the SH is limited due to the ATTS.
Overall, the base will give you less headaches when modding for power.

I do not need to explain anything to you.
My broken wings still strong enough to cross the ocean with.
My broken wings how far should I go drifting in the wind.

Thanks dudes. After doin some research, I think the 5th gen's are a little outta my price range at the moment (I'm a broke student who's having to buy my new car from savings cause insurance won't cover my stolen teg). So I'll prolly be goin for a late 4th gen SI vtec manual. Other than what was mentioned, anything else to look for? thanks again.
Actually I was stupid enough to think I could just get by with liability cause I live in a small ass town with no thieves, or so I thought. Its been a life lesson trust me.

Wow that seriously sucks, really sorry to hear it. If you end up with a Prelude, this site will surely help.
