Well my problems just continue to pile up. I can not get my car in reverse. Then when I get on the road this morning, no 5th gear. I've tried jumping from 1st to reverse or 5th, etc, my fluids are full, tried doing the "grind" the gear with clutch/revs and **** just isn't going anywhere.
Also last when when I was ****ing with my carpc when I push in the clutch this noise goes away. It is a very faint metallic droning noise. Let off the clutch its there, push it in, wait 2 seconds, it stops.
The noise I have been told is a possible throw out bearing, which is ok because I have a new fly/clutch kit at home. But I have no idea what with the gears...
Yo whats up? Well good news... you only blew out a gear syncroid... Simple Fix to this problem:
First of all you have to get your existing tranny dropped and looked by a Honda/ ASE Tech. or someone with transmission mechanic knowledge. I can predict you will have to rebuild your tranny at a shop and have them change your 5th gear/ reverse gear. Both of the gears work with the exact same gear syncroid !!! This should take a few hours to have then drop tranny... remove damaged components... rebuild tranny...reinstall tranny.... test drive the lude and check gears for a resolve to you porblems... Then simply be happy that its fixed and no more worries.......
If you read through my explanation you will find that generally by the time the synchro won't engage reverse, the synchro teeth on the affected gears are also a problem. This requires gear replacement. You may not have to do it, you have to inspect and see, but it's good preventative maintenence. If you don't do it then you may have to pull it and then replace those parts after the fact. It's not worth the risk IMHO.
Cost: tranny removal, teardown, inspection, parts replacement, clearance setting, reassembly, reinstallation. I'd figure at least $1k for that, maybe as high as $2k depending on hourly labor, extent of damage, and parts discounts. Do not even think of attempting the repair yourself unless you have all the right tools, good mechanical knowledge, the service manual, and lots of patience. You can probably remove the tranny and take it to a shop, though, and save some money.
Yea...I dunno how I managed to bend them but I did. I should have known when not only was it impossible to get into 5th and R, but it was hard just to get the shifter over there...
The linkage I got had heatwrap on it, and it was zip tied. I know I read somewhere on here I think, hell it may have been marcucci, that zip tieing it helps out on some of the grinds. Anyone know if that is true? Also, heatwrap serve any purpose really?
So I am bringing this thread back from the dead. I had thought my issue was in the linkage, so I got new linkage. Just installed it and now not only can I not get it into 5th or Reverse, but I can't get it into 1, 3 or over to get it into 5th/R....
How is the linkage suppose to be ran? Right now I have it laying ontop of the rear mount... is it suppose to go on the drivers side? Passenger?
