My car is fu*&ed

Well I was on my way home yesterday and the road I take home was under construction. I bottomed out on a manhole that was about 4 inches off the ground and ended up ripping apart the bottom of my car. I believe the part is called the engine cradle or something around those lines. It's the big bar that comes across the front of the car and supports the engine and transmission. I talked to a friend of mine that works at the local Honda dealership and he said I have about $1500 worth of damages. Long story short I need to call the city and try to find a way for them to pay for, because I sure as hell shouldn't have to. Well, I thought I would just share with you guys. Let me know if you think I would be able to have the city pay for it, or are they going to be jerks and feed some bullsh*t about my car being lowered.

Man, sorry to hear that Kevin. That really sucks. I would definately try to get the city to pay for it. It shouldn't matter that your car is lowered - I'm sure that manhole would've fu%ked up a C5's world... I bet the sound of it just tore your heart out. The roads up there in the cities are just like the roads down here in STL - completely ****ty. Half the time they won't even fix the roads until something like this happens and the citizen complains & it ends up costing the city something...

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Chris

Where wass this at?

I hit this "super-manhole" on Hwy 100 a week ago, and I ripped my little plastic piece under my motor, but didn't notice it until yesterday.

Let me know how it goes. Good thing they didn't stop all of construction like they were talking about, otherwise we would be really screwed.

Unless your friend put it up on a rack you should have the car looked at professionally.

Unless your car is now leaking oil, doesn't run, or the alignment is FUBAR'd, you do not have $1500 in damages. The only thing under the car worth that much is the motor.

I think thatpreludeguy's damage was around $1500. He managed to rip off the whole front towhook bar and damage his A-pipe...

If the city is not responsive to your complaint, you can always file an insurance claim. This sort of accident should certainly be covered by your Collision policy (or maybe Comprehensive even...).
