Anyone else ever noticed the similarities between the prelude and the accord of the same years? I mean sometimes I mistake an accord for a 3rd gen.. and the rear end of the 4th gen and the same year accords look very similar.... even the front ends do somewhat... and when the 5th gen came along the accord tail changed to something very similar to the lude...
I mean a lot of companies build all their cars looking similar during the same years,,, but heck look at the civic from those years... the tails don't look ANYTHING like the accord or lude... and the front end doesn't either... only during the 3rd gen years (when every car looked like a civic/camry/prism/ insert car here) did the civic look like the lude or accord....
Plus I think I read somewhere that the lude was built on the accord platform... modified slightly... and that would probably account for the high weight...
I'm moving this to General Discussion...more relevant over there. As obrigado said though, the 'Lude was its own platform.

Actually, they share many simliarities. They are not built on a unique platform. I think Honda took it's successes with the Accord and built a more agressive car, the Prelude. Ever wonder why you drop an H22 or H23 straight into a 4th gen Accord?
The 94-97 Accords do look a tad bit like the 92-96 Preludes. Especially the 2 doors. I actually wanted a 96 or 97 Accord coupe first. I thought the 4th gen Preludes would cost too much. When I saw the prices for 4th gen Preludes, I asked myself why I would buy an Accord, when I could have a Prelude for LESS MONEY. So...here I am.

The Prelude was originally designed as a 2-door Accord (1st gen). That's what it was marketed as. The car has always shared a lot with the Accord though with the 2nd gen it was billed as being a seperate design. It wasn't until the 3g that it got a unique motor from the others (though this was never true in Japan).
The car shares a LOT with Accords and is a SIMILAR platform. How else do you suppose Honda has gotten USDM/JDM Accord/Prelude motors to swap so easily??
I can'tremember where I read that the accord and the prelude are related... but it was a fairly detailed history... listing specific details and dates etc... it seemed legit... but then again.... it WAS the internet
If i ever mistake a Prelude as an Accord i will know i've lost it

I wouldn't go as far as sayin that I thought a lude was an accord an vice versa....but I can say that they sometimes look similar or have similar pieces....especially the sidemarkers
a lot of companies are doin that now....cheaper to make cars that way
If the lude shared enough of the accord platform to be an effective cost saving measure (and this would not have to be too significant of an amount) then the lude would still be in production today. Nuff said.
