they are selling the hoods for 700 or 800 dollars. to those who have the privledge of owning one, is more than what you paid for yours or about the right price? what other options do we have (5th gen owners) when it comes to carbon fiber hoods?
I did it myself. I sanded down my rims, then I used primer, then high temperature pait. after that i just put clear coat on it. it took all day, but it was worth it in the end.
Fiber Images is definately a great CF hood. I don't have one, but a few of my friends do and it looks VERY nice. I saw this other one, i don't know who makes it, but it had about a 1 inch black border and the CF pattern looked TOO blocky...

I have a fiber images cf hood. I have never seen another brand on a 5th gen, but I wasn't particularly impressed with mine.
Reasons:
1) the Fitment was not very good, the left side is about 1/2" to 3/8" above the quarter panel.
2)They screwed up when making the mold.
A)They didn't remove the rubber surround that is attached to the stock hood that seals the gap between the headlights and hood. So if you want to replace those seals you can't just get new seals to plug into the hood(It has little fasteners so you don't need glue). You can try to glue them on if you want.
B)They did the same for the strip that about in the middle of the hood that seals up with the radiator support. A and B are important for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, I got the "street" hood that isn't supposed to need hoodpins---BULL****, and without those seals the hood will lift up almost an inch on either side. So, I got hoodpins. Also, this is important because without the seals, you are actually increasing lift on the front end--not a good idea.
C)Yes, there's more: They also leave no holes for the windshield sprayers, so you'll have to make due.
D)The two edges at the rear of the hood were scuffed due to shipping. Not a big deal unless you actually look there.
E)Lastly, the fasteners provided to attach the hood to the hinges seemed suspect to me, although I have had no problems with them.

how long have you had youre hood? i have the same brand as you. i'm not using hood pins or anything, however, i am using the rubber seals from the factory hood. i used 3M adhesive to glue them on. my fit is just about perfect. i've actually started to install my windshield washers, but it's not as simple as drilling holes for them to screw in, you know what i mean. yea, the screws for the hinges looked a little suspect, i tried using the factory ones, but the threading is different, but, as you said, no problems...i'm happy with mine.
I've had mine for about 6 months. Sadly I have those seals sitting in my closet. I was thinking about using some silicon, but where can I get some 3M adhesive?
I'm still glad I have the hood, mainly because I had to replace my old hood anyway due to some damage. I had to wait forever to get it though, because about a week after I ordered it, the mold they had split so they had to make a new one. Then when they were supposedly making mine their last sheet of cf wasn't big enough for my hood. You may know that each roll of cf costs about $6000.
There sure aren't many Preludes with cf hoods around here, so it's kind of exclusive. Most people don't even notice because my car is black. Only the people who know what's up and know what to look for notice.
BTW, I bought mine from imoto.com for $550 with free shipping.

oh man definately sounds like you have to know what ur doing and have time!! Is it shiney? Maybe one day you and i can chat about the process seeing as now my neighbor (m3) and i want to gunmetal our rims. Btw i have SSR Integrals and i'm kicking myself now for not getting gunmetal as soon as i had the chance!
Tony it just take time and patience, i did my friends base rims, and im thinking of doing mine since they came out so well. It does take all day, but start early in the morning!!!!

you can get the 3M stuff from ACE hardware, it's in a red tube/red box, look in the weather stripping section. i've had mine for only a month or so. i got it from diablo autosports for $620. i have a white car, so it really stands out. do you notive after driving around for a while and you pop the hood, it takes a few attempts to close it down again? i know it's from warping, kinda funny.
I got in on that fiber images GB... so i have one being shipped to me. any advice for install and care advice? I heard you were supposed to let it sit in the sun for a day or 2 before you put wax on it... dunno.
go with fiberimages, i worked on mine to get it *JUST* about perfect, you have to play with the hood latch, and lower it. and it fits perfect. when i close mine i close it real fast, that seems to work best for me. And i just took foam weather stripping from the hardware store. Yes the kind you use on the door at home. And put it on the headlight, it fills in the gap nicely. I also have my squirters hooked up nice too.
