JDM H22A Swap Concern

Hey guys,

I have been thinking about the JDM H22A swap and something came to mind. You all remember the wonderful "front balancer shaft seal backout" problem. Well did the JDM's have this same problem? If they did how would I find out if it has been fiixed under the recall? Will the dealer fix it for free on the JDM if it hasn't?

Just a thought I had.

Thanks,
J

haha, you think the dealer will fix a JDM engine for free. NO WAY. haha. As for the problem. Can you explain it, i dont think i have ever heard about it. Most of the recalls that are current are on the 5th gens right?

Well I first heard of it when my mom's accord did it. It is when the front balancer shaft oil seal backs out of it's seat and causes all the oil to be rapidly pumped out of the engine. Honda issued a recall for it and it affected many of their engines. I know my H23 needed to have it done when I bought it. All they do is go in and install a retainer on the seal to keep it from backing out.

Yes it will likely have the same problem....just go in for the recall if your car hasn't been done...they won't know it's a JDM engine...

The parts are cheap you could just pay for it... Honda only allocates .4 hours for the labour..

I don't know, My car has already had it done. On the service invoice it said $1000. I could prolly do it myself when the engine is out of the car. Have to find the instructions though, and of course parts.

As far as them not knowing it is JDM, I'm sure they will be a little confused when the Chassis is BB2 and it has an H22 in there. I don't think they are total retards. Oh well.

Thanks,
J

Go to the root, www.alldata.com and look up a '92. This affected a lot of Honda engines including the entire H22A line.

Good luck,

J
