J&S installed on my car now- but regarding the knock sensor configuration with OBD1??

Okay,

Anyone that has the new J&S safeguard knows that when installing it, it asks you if your car has a factory knock sensor installed or not. If it does you install it one way, if not, then you have to hook up a few extra things in order to detect the knock.

Well when I first got started onto the turbo project, I was never planning on doing Hondata. I bought and installed the J&S in the manner of "a car that already has a factory knock sensor". Fine. NOW I am using a P28 OBD-1 ECU that doesn't have knock sensor capabilities(probably because back then the 93 Civic Ex's didn't need or come with knock sensor technology). Okay, so now I am wondering...

Will I have to rehook up my J&S in the configuration of a car that doesn't have a knock sensor in order to get it to do it;s job? Reason I ask is that although my ECU may not have knock sensor ability, my CAR does in fact have a factory knock sensor system installed into it already. So what do I have to do now in order to regain knock sensor control? Install the J&S the other way, or leave it hooked up the way it is now?

the knock sensor is powered by itself. it sends a signal though the KNOCK SENSOR wire htat you hooked the j&s up too. as long as the J&S is receiving signals from that wire you'll be ok.

I'm 99% positive that the KNOCKSENSOR powers itself.

Okay, so basically if I go and undue the MAP limiter wiring so that the stock MAP wiring no longer is spliced into the J&S MAP limiter wiring(basically hook it back together with itself again), and if I detect knock on my J&S monitor, then the unit is working properly, even though my P28 ECU can "do anything" with knock sensors, or control knock or whatever ECU's do?

Only thing I am worried about it, if the unit ISN'T working, and I start to detonate, will I be able to hear it or not? Obviously if I can hear it I will let off the gas ASAP, but if I can't hear it, I don't want to blow my motor!

I will find out soon enough, as I plan to replice the wires together tomorrow and go for a few runs(way too tired to do it now- worked 14 straight hours today without a break, and I have to get up tomorrow morning again at 6 and do it all over again!)

Anyway, I will let you know what I find out! Thanks Pure for being there for me! I'm sure I will have some other Hondata ?'s for you when I start to install the rest of the goodies!

? your j&S isn't connected right now?

you don't need to do anything special to get it to work right again.

if you want to test it, just put it on SUPER SENSITIVE and start going, it'll sense it for sure if its working.

take it easy spocko, i'm here for ya!
