Installed Optima Yellow Top...Some fitment issues.

I recently installed a Optima Yellow Top and experienced some fitment issues.
First, the battery posts are smaller than oem and i found that the factory battery clamps were too big for the optima. Even when i tightened them as far as they could go, i could pop them off of the optima with little effort. I wedged a paperclip in between as a temporary fix.
Next because the optima is a little shorter than the oem battery the battery tie down hits the battery cover/shield before actually making contact on the driver side of the battery cover. So my DC battery clamp is sorta lopsided right now...but its holding it securely.
I also found that I had to really pull on the wires in order to get them to reach the battery post location on the optima.
All in all, I find that my battery is just fugly right now due to all these ,mainly cosmetic problems...I was in a rush(in the middle of a ski trip when i did this so...).
I'm thinking about getting some nicer battery clamps like those from phoenix gold in order to also accomodate the extra wires coming from my alarm and sound system. Additionally, i may extend my wires a little in order to get the wires to look neater.
Has anyone encountered these problems? If not could i get some pics of how u guys arranged everything?
Additionally if i were to lengthen the wires is there anything special i need to do...or do i just go buy some 0 gauge wire and solder it to the existing wires?
Thanks in advance.

Errr...now you got me all paranoid...I don't think i got the wrong one. It says D34*****, I don't remember the rest of the numbers but i believe i have the D34 with the top and side posts.

So yours is taller than the oem battery? Is that why you removed the bottom tray? Mine is definately shorter than the oem. I didn't remove anything and its still shorter than the side of the battery shield.

Mine fits fine with the grey handle...just thought it was kinda ugly.

Maybe you can place some old used 3.5 diskettes or something similar under it to raise it up a bit just so that the tie down is more level?
I'd like to know if you got the same battery as everyone else though as I might be in the market for a yellow top myself.

d34 is correct

as long as it's not the group 51 (smaller cars like the civic)

the optima definately sits lower than the stock battery, but i had no problems reaching the terminals

another thing to note, is that ppl have told me that the terminal are on the wrong side. haha that maybe why you had to streatch the wires? might as well do some rewiring, i know i am.

They are on the wrong side. The posts are situated closer to the passenger side than the oem. Thats why you gotta stretch them pretty taut.

i just put my optima yellow top in my 2000 base. it's the d34/78 with top and side terminals. i cut a small section (3/4" x 2") out of the plastic battery tray so that the tie-down would rest flat on top of the battery. for the other side of the tie down, i tightened it over the raised area of the negative terminal. the terminals were the correct size for the stock connectors. the positive cable reached the positive terminal with no problem. the negative cable is routed around the front of the battery, instead of over the side, and is thus only slightly taut. so it pretty much fits perfectly.
