Installed AEM Short Ram Intake... Loud?

Everyone went on and on about how loud the AEM SRI is... I have mine installed, and even when I floor it its a little more throaty. Not necessarily loud though. Havnt gotten into VTEC yet, but I am little dissapointed in the noise.

Going to remove the resonator and take it back out for a spin and hit VTEC and see if I notice anymore sound.

it isn't going to be overpowering loud, but they do sound good with the stock exhaust since you can really hear the intake. Also you get a lot of intake noise when you cross over into vtec. You also get a sucking noise at higher rpm's.

You should notice a marked difference at higher rpms. But the resonator won't make a difference in sound once you've got a short ram installed.

I know, I can't really believe you didn't hit VTEC yet, that's the first thing I do after installing a part.

Well you've got an SS, it's not going to be that loud.

Like cantdrive55 said, automatic transmissions are a lot quiter than a manual (especially under VTEC).

I dont know about that, after removing resonator its a nice deep growl! I absolutely LOVE the sound that it makes now, omg. Really sounds great, especially from 3K -> 5K RPM's. Of course VTEC just screams, really love it.

Noticeable gains? A little, seem to have a tad more power but I dont know if it's just because of the noise or what.

SRI is, easily. Feels a tad more powerful, Type-S just felt like my OEM intake, and it also its louder!

To me the SRI on a 5th gen seems quiet for some odd reason. In VTEC it's louder, but it doesn't roar like other cars.

compared to my RS*R exhaust my intake is loud.. all through out the power band. LOL! what we're you looking for? you can install a megaphone under the hood and go RRRrRRRRrRRRrrrRrrrRrrRRRRR *banG* Grumble ROARRRRRRSRARRER.. that way it will sound more throaty and aggressive

you really have to be at WOT (flooring it) for the sound to kick in for the intake sound.

i was unaware that people bought $150 intakes for just the sound. You shouldnt be worried about the sound...you should be buying parts like i/h/e for power gains...not really just for noise (or at least name brand expensive parts)

^^ Yeah and removing the resonator on a short ram does nothing to the sound.

From the sound of it you probably had the resonator in along with the Type S intake. So that could be a reason why you didn't feel impressed (if this is indeed the case).

Yeah I did have the resonator in when I had the Type-S. But I know a few people who said it felt just like OEM.

a 5 speed shouldn't be any louder, since you are hearing intake noise which is determinced by RPM and how much you have opened the throttle body (I'm sure your valvetrain would affect it some too). I haven't heard a 5 speed prelude with a short ram but I can't see how it would be any louder.
