illegal muffler?

I just got pulled over by a d!ck cop. He was the biggest a$$hole. He told me my exhaust was illegal. He told me to grow up because I have an exhaust.

Is apexi N1 50 state street legal or no? I thought it was but maybe I heard wrong.

He gave me $75 fine and a court date. DO I have to do both or pick one? When I got pulled over a while ago the cop put both and I paid it and that was the end of it.

Damn that sux.....I hate cops like that. I'm pretty sure the court date is only if you wanna try and get out of the ticket. If you pay it then you don't have to go to court.....correct if I'm wrong.......I haven't gotten a ticket in a while (knocking on wood!).

Any buddy else know about the ticket and/or the N1 being legal or not. I know my AEM SR intake has the 50 state legal carb sticker right on it so I know thats legal but for some reason I heard from someone that the N1 is too. Correct me if I am wrong.

I would figure if it was that illegal, he would have given my a 5 day ticket and made me take it off. I hate this damn cop. I want to go to court just to prove that he was an a$$ to me. I asked for his name and he told me but he also said that everything is being taped in his car. I have no clue why he told me that and I didn't really care. It would have been nice if it was audio taping but then most cops would get fired for being d!cks. Sorry to those that are cops on PO but most cops get big heads because they can pull you over.

The N1 is 50 state CARB legal yes, noise is a whole other issue. CARB exampt just means you can have it on your car for emmissions. Some states, like mine, have a statue which states that any modified exhaust can not be louder then original stock equipment. Looks don't matter, size don't matter, just the sound it makes.

So if that's the law in R.I. then pay your ticket and be dont with it and figure you'll get more. You may be able to get it dropped if you put the silencer in and have it looked at by the department that gave you the ticket to deem it quiet. Good luck with that.

In my city ANY modified exhaust is illegal, the law states:
"No person shall operate a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine, the exhaust outlet of which has been modified or enlarged. "

Soup can tips, walmart tips, aftermarket muffler of any type that isn't to OEM spec is against the law period.

That means, want to buy RSR so you have a QUIET performing exhaust that doesnt rust out in 2years ... against the law punishable by a 70 - 115 dollar ticket (cdn).

i'm sorry to say this, but no one gives 2 shiits about the cops being mean to kids in compact cars.

the cops can get away with a lot more without getting in trouble for it...ever heard of rampart?

still it's always good to ask for a name and badge number if you feel a cop is mistreating you.

What was the offense on the ticket? Look up local government sites on the net. When I got pulled over for my exhuast the cop was a dick so I asked for his badge number and everything. He got all pissie so we went to court. I just had the court date the other day and he wouldnt talk to me before going in. Turns out he didnt want to fight the ticket so he signed if off before we went in. VICTORY IS MINE! Would have been $110 ticket

All it says is muffler. The thing I don't understand is that if it is illegal I would think he would have given me a 5 day tag and made me take it off.

Call your local po po department and ask them for the law, lookup the section on your ticket and they should be able to tell you.. thats where I got the definition of mine.

I think that they are trying to cut down noise polution but not saying condition if the exhaust is X db (like in CA) and smogs ok it is legal ... is not like that ..

BUT .. notice how nobody advertises the law that any after market muffler is illegal, and come time to find out .. its a cop writing you a citation ?

I think fair is fair, give people a 1st warning ... any other after that should be penalized.

Whenever that happens, be sure to ask for his badge number. That tends to give them a little reality check, especially if these cops have done this sort of thing to other drivers. Enough complaints and it goes on their record.

The only illegal aspect of exhausts are loudness, thay have no affect on emissions. You can get it loudness tested, although I don't know where. With that documentation, you could show it to cops whenever you get pulled.

i got a ticket for my n1, too. 55 dollar ticket. Almost got it twice but i kept saying its the FULL catback and is carb and decible legal. in the state of maryland that is. The first ticket i just paid. The court date is if u wanna fight it. What i would do is get ur exhaust tested, slap on a sliencer to better ur odds of passing, and take that decible legal paper to court. Judges love paper work. Show u are legal and you will be on your way, along with maybe a 25 dollar court fee.

But atleast you leave the day won.

you would have to pay for the court fee anyway which would be like 50 bucks. it's a pain in the ass. court is hell.

When I had I/H/E on my lude, the tuning shop was going to put the N1 catback, but changed to Greddy SP when I questioned if N1 was legal. After installation, the tuning shop got me a letter from Greddy stating that the exhaust sound level (88 dB) is below California regulation (95 dB).

I always keep a copy in the car in case I get pulled over for the exhaust. For the last 5 months that I had it, I haven't pulled over yet.

For those of you who are planning to replace the stock exhaust, I'd suggest to get a similar letter from the manufacturer.
