I smell gasoline

this is interesting, i recently bought my 98' prelude and i cannot be happier with it, but im very skeptical (idc if i spelled it wrong) about buying used cars because because i dont know its history. whenever im driving like a butt-hole hitting v-tec in every gear, whenever i floor it i smell premium 93 octane, i normally get 250 miles per tank so i doubt it's a gas tank leak, but im not too sure whats the problem. someone said it might be my exhaust leaking. it's a little frustrating that i've spent all this money on a car and theres a problem with it, is there anybody who's had this problem before??? help me plz, because i live in NY, and if you live in NY you should know that you cannot trust any mechanic out here, i want to go in and tell him to fix that one problem and not to give me another. plz !!!!!

it's normal to smell some fumes after you run it in vtec, as long as you aren't smelling things constantly that's just something with the car

The only way to diagnose this is to check under the hood and look for leaks. It could be an exhaust leak also.

I smell gas pretty often too and I'm pretty sure I have an exhaust leak so check for that. Are you throwing any check engine codes?

Also check your fuel filter as that was causing the strong gas smell in my car.
