I have an idea for a turn signal / mirror mod...

I have been thinking about this since last year. But I don't want to put money into any more modifications to my car. BUt maybe one of you out there will like my idea enough to do it yourself.

There is this company Muth Mirrors which makes sideview mirrors with turn signals built into them. They even have kits for Accords & other Hondas but not for Preludes. My idea is to get one of these kits and make it fit into the Prelude side mirrors.

There are different approaches one could take:
  • Custom fit a mirror kit made for an Accord or other car by taking a glass cutter to the Muth mirror. You could do it yourself or take it to a glass/window shop or someone who works with glass (glass etcher, stained glass, etc.)
  • Disassemble one of these Muth kits and retrofit the LEDs and electronics into the Prelude's mirror. This would require drilling holes into the stock mirrors after first removing them. It is possible to drill into glass - I checked out a glass etching book at the library that shows this, but practice on some extra glass first!
  • Email Muth Mirrors and demand they make a kit for Preludes. I emailed a guy there and he said their product line is demand driven, so if enough people show interest by emailing requests.....

Some knowledge of electronics would be helpful too.

Unique mod but i wouldn't do it though... sounds costly.. why now just stick a sidemarker thing on top of the mirror and there you go.. hehehe.. that was ghetto.

The mirror kits themselves cost between $149-$169 for little red or amber wide angle mirror. And something like $219 for the Honda Accord kit. Other material and labor of course would cost you extra.

I actually saw an Accord on the street with one of these.

I put this link up for anyone interested in contacting these guys and say, "Hey we want one for the Prelude too!"
