Hytech replica tri-y header steel grade

What grade of steel is the Hytech replica tri-y header? For the price I'm assuming a mild steel that will rust relatively quickly...

No rust on mine, but why do you care? You think appearance improves performance?

Er, no. But it would suck to have the damn thing rusting away at critical points. Who cares why I care.

If you're going to try to join the bandwagon, might as well learn how to spell.

The hytech replica uses T-304 Stainless Steel, which is what a normal aftermarket exhaust uses.

Interesting fact though... T-304 isn't known for it's good heat-handling properties and I read that a Stainless Steel like T-321 is much better for making headers (which take most of the heat abuse in the exhaust system) but T-304 is fine for the Cat-back.

Where'd you find this info? Just wondering if its REAL 304 and that its not just a false claim.

Right. I ended up finding the manufacturer on H-T and there's no mention of the grade of steel that they use, just that its "brushed stainless steel."

Either way, after seeing some pics, its going to sit really damn close to the ground with a 1.5" drop. I think a traction bar would be a better purchase, atleast for now.

There are simple ways of fixing ground clearance if you're that concerned. I have the same 1.5" drop and the bottom edge of my flange (lowest point) is about 4.5" from the ground. Also, you should probably take part in my groupbuy before it ends. You can't get it cheaper anywhere else.

I ordered one of these headers too and just had it installed last week. Not sure on the grade of steel, but the color has changed a lot, perhaps more than my GReddy SS Header did after being used. These headers definitely take some custom and time consuming work to install and you need to be comfortable notching your cross member to get them to fit. Hopefully the next dyno session proves that it was worth all the effort
