i was wondering if i had to actually loosen the crank bolt to turn the engine to TDC to do a valve adjustment, or what? i know there's a way by putting the car in fifth and rolling it or something, but i'd rather do it the real way. the problem is that the torque specs for the crank bolt is 178 lb/ft and my torque wrench only goes up to 150 anyone w/ experience help me out

Why would you loosen it? You don't need to. Just take the 19mm socket and turn it counterclockwise (ONLY counterclockwise).
You -probably- won't damage anything, but the cams and every other moving part in the engine are made to turn counterclockwise (the direction of engine rotation), plus all of the surfaces have worn together by the engine rotating countclockwise, so it's a bad idea to rotate it in the opposite direction.
Easiest method is to jack one drive wheel off the ground, put the car in 4th gear, then turn the wheel that's up off the ground- you'll turn the engine over as you do so.
