Ya, BMW has their our flavor called Double-VANOS (double-variable camshaft control). Honda brough variable valve timing to the masses, and everyone else hopped on board soon after. I don't think domestics have quite caught on yet, which is sad concidering this technology is over 10 years old!

yeah, we had VTEC in 1989 with the JDM integra, then the NSX, then the rest.

Though Toyota did have a weird version of camshaft timing before Honda, they didn't have valve timing.

american enginers suck. they're all about sticking the the 60's with ohv and pushrod technology. idk why. i hate it when i see the 6.1 litter hemi pumping out 425 horses... quite sad when u have companies like ferrari with 5+ liters pumping out 800 horses. idk just my two cents.

GM's recent announcement that they are "getting back to design" is encouraging. They admitted that they had drifted away from their roots as a design-oriented company to an accountant-driven company. Maybe now some of their engineering talent will finally be able to do something interesting, although Detroit is already making a few cars I'd really like to have.

On the other hand, I've seen what the concept-design-focus group process can look like. I think their designers may need to get out of Detroit a little more.

By the way, I've noticed that in ALMS the Ferraris aren't keeping up with the Corvettes any more, and have even been pushed farther back in the pack by the new Cadillac.

Back to the thread, I VTEC a least once about every time I leave the driveway (after, not while, leaving the driveway).

That's as narrow minded as the AI guys that don't think a Honda should be out on the track with their cars.

I guess the new Z06 or Saleen S7 are just crappy cars eh? Yes, I'll take a Honda over those two any day. Give me a break....

By the way, what's the torque on the two engines you're comparing?

As for VTEC, in the Civic (SOHC VTEC, hopefully to be an H22 soon!), I get into VTEC at least 10 times a day.

For the Prelude, there's hardly a time out on the track when it's NOT in VTEC!
