If you have comprehensive insurance coverage, then whatever you deductible is. That should be covered.

Unfortunately there's no comprehensive coverage on it

bummer

I alwaaaays do comprehensive because I'm more worried about what will happen from other people or things.

In fact, I have comprehensive with no deductible and I don't think it was more than an extra couple bucks a month. But now if I have broken in windows, hit/runs, no worries.

FYI - comprehensive insurance DOES NOT cover hit and run (even if there was a witness who can provide a license plate# of the person, you have to make a collision claim, and they will go after the other driver (and they will not raise your rates). Comprehensive coverage is for theft, fire, vandalism, chipped/cracked windshield, & acts of God (i.e. tree falling on it, hail damage, garage roof caving in, etc.) Shopping cart damage in a parking lot also IS NOT covered by comp.

I had a similar incident to the OP's with a previous car. It was covered by my insurance under a "vandalism" claim without being hassled about it at all. I just called in the claim and explained what happened, then they told me to drop my car off at the bodyshop and pay my deductible, and that was the end of it. It really just depends how good your insurance is and how extensive the damage to the car is I guess. The insurance company likely won't want to bring lawyers into it if it's a relatively small claim like this one, and if you've been with the same insurance company for awhile or have multiple policies with them they don't want to lose you as a customer just for one small claim either.

As for a shopping cart damage claim, just threaten to sue the store who's lot it happened in and 9 times out of 10 they will just cave. All the major super stores like walmart, kroger, meijer, malls, shopping centers, or wherever usually have a yearly budget set aside for that. It's cheaper for them to just pay to fix it than pay the lawyers unless you were taking your Enzo to buy groceries or something like that.

Either way it doesn't matter in this case. OP has no comprehensive insurance so it doesn't make a difference. Going by what my insurance paid when my car got him a few years back, I'd guess that it's going to be ~$2000 to have that bodywork fixed and those two panels repainted at a dealership, assuming there is no structural damage. It would probably be cheaper elsewhere, but you usually get what you pay for with bodywork and paint. Too bad that will all be out of pocket. Bummer.

Are you sure about that? I've had allstate comprehensive for 11 years, in that time they have covered me on 2 hit and runs while it was parked and one incident where another driver didn't yield and I had to eat some curb.

Finally got it to the body shop today... estimated the damage at $1,220. Not sure what we're going to do. I took off the interior panels and was able to push some of the dents out, but this needs a professional's touch
