HID retro

i saw someone saying something about Integra projectors and it gave me a brand new idea, i have no clue on how to do anything with HID but i'm thinking would a integra halogen projector work with a HID bulb, thinking that i could just take out the halogen bulb, replace with new HID blub and new ballasts and somehow fit them into the lude's housing? would this idea work at all, just curious to see what everyone else has to say

yeah....that was probably me. It would be the same as doing an Audi or BMW projector conversion except that the Integra uses 9006 bulbs (same as the 4th gen). Instead of D2S/R bulbs you would just get a rebased bulb to fit a 9006 socket. I just came up with that because I had already bought a 9006 HID kit and didn't feel like buying new bulbs. But since then my kit blew out so I'm contemplating what I'm gonna do next with my lights.

FYI - Do you have any idea what an Integra projector looks like when you take it out? It is one whole piece. Are you planning on cutting these and retrofitting these to a prelude housing? Personally I do not think that would work. They are not like the E46 from a BMW or the A6 from an Audi.

The integra projector will need to be internally modified first.

The integra projector was designed for halogen bulbs. You can try them with HIDs, but don't expect to get results that would be similar to projectors that are designed for HIDs. If the integra projectors were to work...then all the people that do retrofits would have probably used them instead of the Hella or Bosch projectors that were designed for HIDs because of price. I might not be right on any of this. I'd ask Vick (AndoOKC)

^^^ exactly. In a halogen projector they shield is designed differently than a HID projector. More light is allowed to stray above the cutoff and they can even sometimes have a slit cut into the shield to allow more light. With HID D2S bulbs this will produce awful results.

go make your own new ones. I am considering making my own Bi-xenon's and getting rid of my a4 e-codes... I already have the bi-xenon projectors and all.

I've got 2 set of Bosch bi-xenon and one Hella non. I still actually like the bigger units now that I've looked at them both. Each has their own mounting challenges. These newer style Hella units look like they have nice possibilities.

BTW: I have seen the Integra ones modified for D2S and the output was kinda nice. Cutting this projector into a workable size would be like doing so with the S2000 projector. I'm thinking Halogen would only be worth it on the H7-Valeo ECE for the non-xenon Euro S4. Anything else doesn't seem worth it.

There are a variety of places. Junk yards (if you are lucky) Or the usual, Ebay, when you buy from ebay, make sure that they come with everything. Why? Because some of them are missing the bulb holders (The circular part that hold the bulbs in place).

cool thanks. I think I'll try and make this my new project since I'll have a lot of spare time on my hands on weekends since me and my girl broke up.

mounting the bosch bi-xenons were absolutely no problem...well i guess thats not entirely true...but it was easier than I was expecting it to and I kept the project under 8 hours.

Can someone educate me? What is the difference between Bi-Xenon's and regular HID's?

bi-xenons are a single HID projector unit with a moveable shield allowing for an HID low beam and High beam in one unit.

And regular/single xenon projector does not have a moveable shield and thereby is only functional for low beam.

Soccer3303,

I hope you can squeeze that bad boy in there...its really a monster of a projector.

Integra Projectors are known to have horrible glare when you use HID bulbs with them. I have researched adding HID to my integra.
