hi. just thought i'd introduce myself.
my name is Adam from the uk, i'm building an autograss car.
autograss is a form of racing that takes place on on a quarter mile oval dirt track.
i'm building a MK1 vw golf for use in class 6. i was going to use a 2.0 16v vw golf engine on homemade itb's but saw the light and now going to run a H22a motor. it would cost a few thousand £'s to get the vw motor to 200bhp.
the car is completely stripped and spaceframed front and rear.
i'm sure i'll find out loads of info from this site to help me through.
many thanks Adam
i've got a h22a engine, i plan on running some itbs with a set of cams on a stock bottom end. 10.6:1 cr i think it is. with the type of racing i do i only use 2nd gear and rev from between 4k upto around 7.5k
most class 7's have twin bike engines. something like R1 engines, some have a single bike engine like a busa, some still use car engines like ford cosworth or nissan 350z with a supercharger.
i'd say the twin bike engines have arround 200 bhp each in something that weighs 650 kg at most.
its not uncommon to see a 7 pull a wheelie of the line.
edit: Just watched the youtube vid. Damn those things HAUL ass off the line . funny seeing those little thing putting down the power. Looks like a fun event.

all panels have been skinned to leave just the outer shell.
baulkhead cut out and will be replaced with 1mm mild steel sheet
floor pan removed and replaced with 1mm mild steel sheet. this will be strengthened with 25mm x 25mm x2.5mm box metal. a square frame around the outside then a X brace from corner to corner.
front of car completely cut off ready for space frame to mount engine , box and running gear.
most use a vauxhall 2 litre 16v redtop engine running upto 280 bhp,
some like the car CA59 in the vid have a ford zetec 2 litre 16v. again around 280 - 300 bhp
