HELP! oem clutch

My clutch is very "loose" half-way down and then is pretty tight when pressed all the way down. I don't know what happened because I was driving the car last night and it seemed fine..but going to work today I found it hard to put into gear (especially 1st). I'm hoping it's not a big prob..maybe the clutch fluid is low?? Please help, any advice/tips would be VERY appreciated.

V
p.s. i have 93'

^^update...clutch stays down and has no resistance at all..I cannot even put it in gear. Do you guys the think the clutch gave out or is it something else? Also should I have it towed to a shop or can it be fixed on the spot?

probably slave cylinder, master cylinder, or both. Is there fluid on the inside of the firewall where the plunger connects to the master cylinder? Is the slave cylinder leaking fluid?

is there fluid in the reservoir?

I'm not sure Gloc, I will have to check tomorrow. Are the slave/master cylinders easy to replace? How much will this run me if it is the cylinders?

yes sounds like one of the cylinders went bad. Sounds like the problem i had on my 5th gen and it turned out to be the Slave Cylinder. Slave should run you anywhere from 40 - 60. i got the work done free so i don't know how much that would cost

I got my slave cylinder for like $20 from Autozone. I'm not sure how much the master is.

The slave is pretty easy to replace. The only sucky part is the bleeding. Are you mechanically inclined?

No I'm not inclined mechanically with the clutch area.

Should I just have it towed to a shop so they can work on it or is it something not worth towing and can be done on the spot(assuming someone is mechanically inclined with clutches).
Sorry...I just wanna get this thing fixed ASAP.

It can be done on the spot if you have a friend who knows what he's doing. I don't know what a shop will charge... then you also gotta add in the towing charges. But if you do need it asap, just take it to a shop then

I actually bled the system with a wrench, long piece of string, and a baseball bat

thats a easy job to do !!its two bolts and the line ,to bleed it its best to use a vacumm bleeder for the clutch but you can do the old pump and hold method but dam just try it and see what happens !!!trust your self you need to know how to work on your own car !!

^^I agree, I really need to know how to work on the car especially the easy stuff, like changing bulbs, checking tire pressure/oil..lol.

Unfortunatly the car parked at my work and I will not be able to the labor in the parking lot, not to mention that I don't have any tools or the space to do or have this done.

I'm taking it to a family friend's shop, I got a quote for $210 for the part and labor and know at least they won't try to rip me off.

I was just thinking...should I just replace the whole clutch or will it last a little longer if I get the slave cylinder installed. I don't want my clutch to go out a month or two from now after having to pay $210 for a new cylinder. I am not the original owner of the car and do not know if it was previously changed. The car has 135k on btw.
