HELP!! Just received new flywheel, are these pics of it normal???

Just received my Clutchmasters flywheel today. Found it at my front door with a torn and damaged box. Thanks UPS!

Now this is the first time i've seen a flywheel in person, and I have a few concerns regarding it, since it doesn't seem to be very clean and "new":

On the left side, there is "H4" etched in by some type of hand etching device. Did any of you guys get the same thing too???

On the steel part, there's a chunk missing on the outside edge of it!! Could it be a manufacturer's defect or just a slight imperfection i don't have to worry about?????

Another chunk missing, but on the inside edge of the steel.

A closer pic of the "H4" etching. Notice all the dark-orange rust along the outside edge of the gear teeth????

The orange rust rubs off onto fingers and paper.

Some marks on the steel surface. Has this been used or damaged?

Here's the bolts that came with it packaged with instructions i suppose. Note how the blots rub off onto the paper and plastic. Seems like they are covered in a layer or grease????

Also, the flywheel is lightly covered in grease in a lot of places. Was it supposed to be greased, or was it supposed to come clean and dry??

Thanks guys!! Hopefully this flywheel is just fine and i'm just tripping over nothing.

I dunno about my clutchmasters, but my friend's fidanza looked PERFECT when he got it. The surface had no marks/imperfections. I don't really know if yours "looks" normal, but I'd guess no.

looks fine to me, I've seen plenty of parts come hand etched like that from different places. I'd say just run it and enjoy! That flywheel's gonna rule!

Those chunks missing are from the casting/sintering process. I wouldn't worry about it. The steel parts will be coated in oil to prevent rust. That thing looks perfectly fine to me.

Looks fine to me. Use the stock bolts for the flywheel, don't bother using those.

The teeth and friction ring are mild steel. Without some type of coating, they rust. It's normal. You don't want any type of coating on the friction ring anyway.

I've ordered 2 in the last 2 weeks and I didn't notice any chunks missing. The first one looked almost perfect just a little surface rust on the teeth which is perfectly normal. If you've seen any of my recent posts I had some problems with my first one with the pilot hole lining up with the crank. The second one I got looked kinda dusty and it was missing the bolts- I'm still waiting on the shop to call and tell me if it worked out. Let me know how your install goes.

If you have the tools, time, and knowledge, do it yourself.

Drive on out to Texas and I could do it for you. For a very reasonable price, of course.

The only thing holding me back on doing the install myself is time. I'm barely even gonna have time to leave my car at the shop for a day (i'd die if it had to be there 2 days). I was lucky i had spring break to stick my hondata gasket in. Hopefully i'll have a small break between the end of the semester and the start of summer session...all i need to do is find a ride to work

The "chunks" missing are where they started the plasma arc cut the friction ring. As long as it's balanced, you should have no problems.

flywheel looks totally fine.

i used to run the clutchmasters on my old hybrid accord. mine didn't have the chunks missing on the replaceable plate but it did have hte rust on the teeth. nothing to worry about.

you guys are gonna love it. it's really like night and day on an n/a car.

they'll charge you.... a lot. it's not the sort of work they really enjoy doing, and their hourly rates are high. probably about $500 or something. my local honda dealer actually quoted me only like $300 or so.

I'm ok with spending $500, since my local dealer quoted me $900 on just labor alone. Hmm....who is your local honda dealer?? I might as well just drive up to frisco and spend the day if they can do my car for $300

I'd rather have south bay shop do it, since it will be more convenient, but i don't really trust any shops around here since they have no clue wtf atts is.

san francisco honda - i was totally shocked when they gave me that quote, i said "you know this is a type SH, right, and i'm asking you to install an aftermarket clutch *and* flywheel..."

they seemed serious. you should call them and verify though, b/c it seems too good to be true. my motor is in a few dozen pieces now, so the install is a piece of cake. i'm going to use the ATTS as a doorstop for a few weeks. lol.
