H22a4 / H22a5 blocks, any difference in headgasket?

Hey

Im about to change my block in my 4th gen.
My h22a2 block cracked in a coolantline below the header >,<

Anyways, Im not sure what block im going to get, it will be the one I can get my hands on could be a4 or the a5 not sure yet.

But Im about to order alot of stuff I need for the swap.. Such as headgasket and stuff. Just wondering if theres any difference in the headgasket from h22a4 -> h22a5 ?

Thanks!

Best regards Rasmus Mikkelsen

All depends on if it's the open deck or closed deck, H22a4 is open deck, if the H22a5 is too then that gasket will work just fine.

Okay thanks, I believe honda changed the design of the block (h22a1+h22a2) to the opendeck version because of this. I have a friend with similar problem on the A2 block -,- he swapped engine instead.

The h22a5 is just the EU version of 97 h22 prelude, A4 is US version.
As the A1 is us version and A2 Eu block.

Well then it should work since all 5g blocks were all open deck, I'd try to find a closed deck block, known to be more durable. Most manufacturers went do open deck mainly because it's cheaper to manufacture, less aluminum is needed.

yea but all closed deck are known to crack the same spot.. Both me and my friend have experienced it on the h22a2 / closed deck block, the exact same spot.. I cba with that anymore
