going to powder coat my valve cover this week

i just bought a used valve cover (in case i messed up in anywhere) and take it to my friend's shop to powder coat it

i am going to use aircraft paint remover to remove the old paint, is there anything thing else i should pay attention to when powder coating it?

What color are you going with? The local shop here charges in between $35-70, depending on color, color availability, type of finish, etc. Lifetime warranty too.

i don't know yet, cause it's not a car shop and he never powder coat a valve cover before, so everything is a "trying" stage, if it comes out good, i'll post a pic and let you guys know how much it costs me

I have a powder coater, so my engine bay is going to get powercoated...it's really easy to do...the valve cover is hard to do, it you want to smooth it out, if not, i'll do it for you, you just have to ship it to me and back.

make sure u dont get that aircraft paint remover on your hands, it burns like no other...wear a couple pairs of rubber gloves and keep switching them, when i used it it burnt through my rubber gloves and onto my skin. good luck!!

i suggest you use Krylon Paint remover, its the best, spray it on, the paint bubbles up after a minute or so, its not as harmful as aircraft paint remover,,, its great stuff..

Did mine myself....took off valve cover, used aircraft stripper to get the black off, sanded the hell out of it, used rustoleum clean metal primer, let that sit in for a while, then sprayed about 20 coats of Rustoleum Metallic Cobalt Blue, then a few coats of Rustoleum Clear Coat. It now looks professionally done and it cost about $15 in paints and supplies and took a day to do, but obviously it wasnt a day straight, more waiting than anything....here is a pic, looks good, huh?
