Does anybody here know if the Takata harnesses are capable of being installed w/o a roll cage? Would I need to do any body modding to install them in a 4th Gen?
Thanks,
J

I've been researching the same thing, trying to figure out how to put harnesses in my car. Although there are a few ways to do it without a roll bar, it's really not very safe to have harnesses without one. I really don't want to lose my backseat though, so I might just stick with regular stock belts. I don't know, I'm still debating. Also, I know I'm one to talk, but why takata? They seem extremely overpriced for a product that is pretty much identical to other harnesses that are 1/4 the price.

I'm going for as much as I can possibly do to make my car JDM. But, if they can't work w/o a roll cage, I might just go the way of Greddy or some other harness. Like you said, it does make sense, b/c other brands are WAY cheaper.

With the stock 4th Gen seats you would need some sort of bar since with the stock seats there is no where for the belt to rest. The belts would slip down the sides of the seat making them hard to adjust and makes it harder for the belts to do there job. Either use racing seats and mount them to the rear deck supports (which is a safe decline degree, no spinal compression), or buy a belt bar that mounts in between the two stock upper seat belt mounts.
Ok I've seen a harness bar made before. It's just a U shaped bar going from the top bolt locations for the seat belts. I saw it on a supra and it looked tight. Do you get what im saying? It looked like the video bars they put on roll cages.

i have seen the takata harness on Bride seats before, looks really awesome...
Right now, I only have the stock 4th Gen seats. They are very nice, and do their job, but the tan cloth is crapping out on me, and I'm going to upgrade soon. I just need to know how I can get the Takatas to work, b/c I like them a lot. Red92, thanks for the suggestions!!

WOW, this is an old thread, haha...I've had my Takata in since before LFW, haha...yup, uses stock mounting points w/ eyelet screws...and the harness then clips through the eyelet holes...very easy, and looks Grrrrreat!

Hey do you have any pics of your harness? I'd like to see what they look like and how they were mounted.

I don't have any...but if you look around at some of the LFW '03 picture collections, you might find one. Hell, I haven't even seen all the pic collections of that show yet...just one collection. I STILL don't have a digi cam, or I'd take a few pics for you right now =D..
